There's Babylonian confusion of speech in all #ActivityPub related discussions that occur across the #fediverse. We have the #SocialWeb protocol specification itself, then the reality-on-the-wire where gaps and optional technology choices are implemented. And where protocol decay and post-facto #interoperability (follow-the-Mastodon) murky the waters. Leading to misunderstandings, wrong expectations, etc.
An example is in how we talk on Nomadic Identity:

A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats
We have published a new blog post recently: https://providers.xmpp.net/blog/2025-07-20-rising-tide-lifts-all-boats/
Here we cover our #survey results to gather feedback from #XMPP #server #operators. We also provided more background on the project's purpose.
Thanks to all survey participants!
"Readers may recall that Japan recently passed the Smartphone Act, officially the Bill on the Promotion of Competition for Specified Software Used in Smartphones. Among its most important reforms is a direct prohibition on Apple’s long-standing ban on third-party browser engines on iOS.
This ban has functioned as an effective ban on browsers like Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave & Vivaldi, by forcing them to use Apple’s WebKit engine, which they cannot modify or control. This results in no effective browser competition on iOS, and web apps being deprived of the APIs and performance they need to compete with native apps."

Oh FFS.
"This decision undermines software freedom principles that have defined Android's open ecosystem since its inception. Privacy-focused users who specifically avoid Google services now face forced participation in Google's verification infrastructure."
EU Age Verification App sparks ban on non-Google licensed Android apps:

How on earth can @EUCommission possibly justify this in any way?
A wish for the non-enshittifying part of the internet: A service that gathers all metadata around my music listening. It would "scrobble" my listening history no matter where I listen to it - like last.fm. It would gather all my playlists, artists I follow, perhaps even concerts I've gone to (or are looking for, like songbird) etc. For the moment, I don't need to be able to listen to any music through that service. I just want the metadata and make it easy to migrate.
