Okay, if you haven't seen this murderbot fanfic that is also a fully playable game of minesweeper, you're really missing out:

100% of reviewers have rated Visual DOS 2024 Tech Preview 5 stars.
No, I will not tell you it's only been 1 review, that's irrelevant. Visual DOS Tech Preview is a 5-star Operating System
In which I embark on the third "origin game" of Japanese adventure games, The Palms, with a look at the history and the early part of the game.
The board is pleased to announce that the engineer who suggested that Visual DOS 2024 Tech Preview must be experienced in a single session has been terminated.
Here's an @AtlasObscura article for if you have fond memories of the "Choose Your Own Adventure" series (The one where you were at summer camp and then suddenly, in a Robin Hood story! Holding your finger in a page where you'd made a choice in case your adventure ended and you needed to go back to that crucial point!) Back in 2017, Sarah Laskow wrote about projects to map the forking structure of the stories, in doing so, revealing how the series evolved, its connection to modern interactive fiction, and the most complex, straightforward, and frustrating books.

Another casualty of the UK Online Safety Act: all interactive fiction (inc traditional parser text adventures) games stored at http://ifarchive.org are currently geoblocked to UK users. IFTF folks are trying to work out a solution, but there is no clue how long that might take. IFArchive holds 30+ years worth of generally amateur/free IF games - a vast number. Including my own. Which I can't play online right now. Not that I want to but it's ironic! #interactiveFiction #OnlineSafetyAct #games

Invincible Island continues, as I locate all the parchments and decipher the overall puzzle ... while still not having all the parchments due to the a "death preview" trick the game allows.
The latest RetroAdventurers is out, in which we review `10 CAVE` Adventure, Young Arthur, and PunyJam #1 winner Captain Cutter's Treasure.
This was an older recording, so the sound quality may be a small step back from our current standards. We recorded it as a "buffer" back when we thought some light fare without news or mail might keep us going through a dry spell of recording, only to realise that we could double our recording schedule without trouble!

And now an #InteractiveFiction quiz thread where the clues are riddle poems:

(The emoji quiz of the previous post is still going, too.)
Trinity (1986), by Infocom. One of the first five Infocom games I bought (the others were Enchanter, Sorcerer, Spellbreaker, and Deadline), and it still has some of the best graphics I've ever seen in an adventure game.
(Screenshot from the Macintosh version, because that's how I played it back then.)
Did you already listen to the latest episode of „The Retro Adventurer“? No? Then go do it now!
If only they were PROPERLY on the Fediverse!

Of course there are a lot of coffins. But so far nothing interesting.

In my grand finale to The Dark Crystal, events start to hew closer to the movie, with unfortunate side effects.
This would set the stage for the creation of King's Quest, with a demo version in stores later that same year, and a full release in May of 1984.

@profoundlynerdy This sounds an awful lot like Redhawk, which the @retroadventurers.bsky.social covered in episode 22: https://retroadventurers.podbean.com/e/22/ #InteractiveFiction
Ok, we gave in and had a look at a German walkthrough. To be precise: ASM Special issue 15, which I actually owned as a kid! It is since long lost, copies float around the web! So you REALLY have to examine and search EVERYTHING. And I mean literally EVERYTHING. And you CAN‘T solve the game using the mouse interface alone. Which is a huge NO NO in my books. The verb we needed was TURN, and it is NOT in the icons. Then what’s the use of icons anyhow?
