This is a wake up call: A fire at Vistra Energy's Moss Landing battery storage facility in California destroyed thousands of lithium batteries – and a significant amount of the state's clean energy storage capacity. Fire was allowed to burn itself out rather than engaging with it directly. Pollution post fire are water pollution from hazardous chemicals related to lithium batteries as well as plastics. #water #pollution #hazards #lithium #batterystorage #energy. newscientist.com/article/24646

Question:

I've been #TechnicalWriting for a while, but this is the first piece of #equipment with physical #safety #hazards I've had to write the manual for.

Are there any relevant #standards I don't know I don't know about that might be relevant? Like are there standard implementation of safety/hazard glyphs (like the WHIMIS and MDS symbols?)

Any "safety critical equipment" manual do's and don'ts? Things that you've learned the hard way? #TechnicalWriters

time for a re- #introduction 👋

I'm an incoming Ph.D. student in the Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, advised by Dr. Miyuki Hino.

I'm interested in climate #adaptation and #resilience, #equity, social and technical #networks, and compound #hazards.

I previously worked in local government performing research and spatial analysis.

When not working, I'm riding #bikes, walking the dog, shooting film, and sampling taco trucks.

I'm senior researcher at #CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) and #IPGP (Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris).
