Aside from the missing avocado, I was surprised the recipe included garlic and lime juice, ingredients that never appeared when my parents made it when I was a kid. They used Diana Kennedy's books as the authority, though I omit tomatoes because if you have leftovers the guacamole gets ruined. Rick Bayless' Mexican Kitchen (1992) calls for garlic, which to me is just plain wrong if not a crime, so I wonder whether he's to blame for the trend.
