I always hear about compression artefacts but rarely noticed them, until recently.</p><p>You'd think higher compression is good for <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/EnergyEfficiency" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EnergyEfficiency</span></a>. The impact of delaying the expansion of networking hardware is hard to assess. Energy spent on client-side decoding and new client hardware probably dominates.</p><p>Results of encoding settings are not obvious:<br><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2401.09854" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">arxiv.org/abs/2401.09854</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/ClimateChange" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ClimateChange</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/Google" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Google</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/GreenComputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GreenComputing</span></a></p>
