Time for some Nature :yell: First up, this little guy, a baby Japanese Gecko, spotted on a hot sunny morning this week, on the path along the river.

I've seen (or heard scurrying away) quite a few geckos and skinks recently, but this is the first one that stuck around long enough to have its picture taken.

While I was crouched taking pictures with my phone, a middle-aged Japanese woman cycling by stopped to tell me all about nihon-yamori. She was worried it might die on the exposed concrete in the heat, and proceeded to catch it with her hands and carried it over to a bushy area on the other side of the path.

saw a post about geckos and wanted to post this photo I took of tiny (then undescribed) day gecko species i found right outside my house but i can't seem to find it. here's a another I took while on a survey of the herpetofauna of that region 8 years back in 5 days from today.

i believe the common name and even the scientific name has changed but I know it as the Termite Hill Gecko (Hemidactylus triedrus) and it does get a lot more vividly coloured than this.

As Mozilla fumbles #Firefox, let's reflect on what we'd lose if this unique browser + engine dies.

How can I get a list of #HTTP, #HTML and #CSS features that are only supported by Firefox / #Gecko? Does caniuse.com or MDN have this? Wikipedia?

Only Firefox supports assigning #stylesheets through HTTP headers:
meiert.com/blog/prefer-http-he

Only Firefox supports alternate stylesheets: developer.mozilla.org/en-US/do

Put these facts together, and you can make a secret stylesheet only for Firefox users.

This afternoon, even though it’s a holiday, I stopped by the office to check if any important mail had arrived. When I opened the door, I saw something moving on the wall - it was a gecko! A few years ago, spotting one around here would’ve been quite unusual.
I moved slowly and quietly, but it didn’t seem scared of me at all.

He’s now called Jack, and I think he’ll be a pleasant little office companion.
Too bad he hasn’t learned to use the toilet yet!

I think it'd be a horrid thing for the web to be *entirely* shaped by Google/Chrome/Blink — so I'd encourage anyone shifting away from #Firefox at the moment in the wake of #Mozilla's insane moves to destroy itself to please consider sticking with a #Gecko-based browser.

And maybe we should all be keeping an eye on #Servo: servo.org/

ServoServo aims to empower developers with a lightweight, high-performance alternative for embedding web technologies in applications.Servo is a web rendering engine written in Rust, with WebGL and WebGPU support, and adaptable to desktop, mobile, and embedded applications.
