I don't like to talk about politics on this account. There comes a point where we must. 4 days before the most important election in #US history is one of them. I would've liked to have posted this sooner, but I really didn't want to cut into my already disrupted October plans.

I have to post this now.

I think it's obvious at this point that I support Kamala Harris and the Democrats in this election, and I think it's obvious why, as a #queer and #disabled #transgender #furry, I would support the party that has given people like me more protections over the one that has openly tried to go after them.

I need not remind people of the years we've spent fighting against Republicans on #GayMarriage, #TransRights, #Disability protections like the #ADA, Pro-Choice issues even beyond abortion and #BodyModification into #BodilyAutonomy in general, and claims that #furries are trying to "put litterboxes in school #bathrooms."

This thread is not about any of those things.

READ ON.

Their courtship, which came soon after #Australia legalized #GayMarriage…, offered a symbol of #optimism for the #queer community & its supporters. Their likenesses were memorialized on floats at #Pride celebrations in #Sydney, & their story was retold in documentaries,…featured in an episode of the Netflix…series “Atypical” & in 2023, teachers in New South Wales said that their story would become a resource for primary school curriculums as part of a unit on #family & #relationships.

@danimo none of us should act like we just fell out of a coconut tree. #Harris exists in a context of all that has come before. She's a politician who has had to run for election to specific offices in specific regions with specific constituencies who care about specific issues.

Electoral politics is the art of finding the best mix of your personal views and the views of your constituents. This are never going to mesh 100%. A good politician is ready to follow the will of their people but also attempt to persuade those people to another course.

In the 80s and 90s the big scary thing the media were forcing down our throats were violent crime and drug crime, so Harris focused on those things.

Hell, #Obama was against #gaymarriage until he was for it. I fully expect the Vice President to have updated her stances on a host of issues as compared to the late 20th century.
