Apple, una empresa trillonaria, ha iniciado una batalla legal contra la Comisión Europea para impedir que los desarrolladores de software de terceros accedan a funciones esenciales de software y hardware de los dispositivos Apple.</p><p>Discrepamos. La interoperabilidad no debe estar controlada discrecionalmente por empresas como Apple. Por eso la Free Software Foundation <a href="https://mastodon.uy/tags/Europe" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Europe</span></a> (<a href="https://mastodon.uy/tags/FSFE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FSFE</span></a>) está tomando cartas en el asunto, siendo la única organización de la sociedad civil que interviene en este caso para defender la interoperabilidad y la libertad del software.</p><p>La Ley de Mercados Digitales (<a href="https://mastodon.uy/tags/DMA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DMA</span></a>, por sus siglas en inglés) impone obligaciones antimonopolio a empresas de gran tamaño (denominadas «<a href="https://mastodon.uy/tags/gatekeepers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gatekeepers</span></a>» por la ley), obligando a compañías como Apple a permitir la interoperabilidad y concediendo a quienes deseen acceder (a tiendas de aplicaciones, a navegadores, a sistemas de pago, etc.) acceso gratuito a sus API. La ley impone el mismo nivel de interconexión a los desarrolladores de software de terceros del que disfruta <a href="https://mastodon.uy/tags/Apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Apple</span></a>, y esto es precisamente lo que la compañía intenta evitar. Alegan -contenga la respiración- que la interoperabilidad en el DMA viola derechos fundamentales.</p><p>Por el contrario, la FSFE argumenta que la interoperabilidad es una piedra angular de interés público en los mercados digitales: la interoperabilidad garantiza que usuarios y desarrolladores tengan la libertad de elegir y crear las soluciones que mejor se adapten a sus necesidades, en lugar de quedar recluidos en un único entorno controlado por un actor hegemónico del mercado. Sin una interoperabilidad efectiva, las soluciones de software libre no pueden competir con los servicios de Apple, ya que se les niega el acceso a funciones esenciales en los dispositivos de Apple, lo que conlleva una degradación del rendimiento y la funcionalidad.</p><p>La FSFE apuesta por un futuro en el que la tecnología esté al servicio de todos, fomentando la justicia, la libertad y el beneficio público.
