Some interesting stats on submissions received during consultation for the Richmond Valley renewables project:

Quote : According to a report summarising public feedback on the project, a “large number of submissions … raised concerns with perceived increase in bushfire risk and impacts to or reduction of biodiversity.”

The original EIS for the Richmond Valley solar and battery project received a total of 48 public submissions, 44 of which objected to the project. Just 12 of the total submissions were from people living within 5 km of the project (two were supportive) and another seven were between 5-100 km of the project.

The vast majority of submissions, just under 30, were from respondents living more than 100 km from the proposed project. End_Quote

Me thinks there’s a whole lot more anti-renewables and #ClimateDeniers doing a lot of writing here than genuine concerns expressed by those likely to be affected. Bet you the #fossilfuel lobbies are involved…

RenewEconomy · One of Australia’s biggest battery projects seeks to boost power capacity, reduce fire riskOne of the Australia’s biggest battery projects – and one of the first eight-hour batteries – is making some key adjustments to design, including in power capacity.

Had a gut full of #FossilFuel industrialists and corporate grifters. How long is our govt going to let this drag on? Every fucking year, with every policy geared to renewables, these bastards sing the same song and, lo and behold, govt folds and ensure these leeches extract more and make more profits on the back of every Australians. FFS, isn’t time #Labor showed some balls here? (Excuse the French).

How hard can it really be to put a short leash on the #ExtractiveIndustries ? Really, how hard can it be?

@Snoro certainly the #ALP in Australia don’t show any sign to limit #FossilFuel growth but if we now have a UK example then maybe… The underlying issue is that the political class sees Australia as a #PetroState and that our economy is dependent upon fossil fuels. It’s the line pushed heavily disguised by the fossil barons.

Whilst the #FossilFuel & #meat industries are propt-up by corrupt political cronies, there are countries that are less corrupt, or more "green", than others. Putting the welfare of people & "planet" before corporate greed, requires public participation & speaking out against the political rhetoric, AKA #greenwash

International Survey Shows 81% Back Forcing #BigOil to Pay for #Climate Destruction

"People are no longer buying the lies. They see the fingerprints of #FossilFuel giants all over the #storms, #floods, #droughts, and #wildfires devastating their lives, and they want accountability," said the head of one green group.

by Eloise Goldsmith, Jun 19, 2025

"Large majorities of people around the world support both taxing #oil, #gas, and #coal companies for the #EnvironmentalDamage made worse by fossil fuels and using higher taxes on #polluters to support communities most impacted by the #ClimateCrisis, according to the results of an international survey released Thursday.

"The study, which was jointly commissioned by #Greenpeace International and #Oxfam International, surveyed roughly 1,200 people in each of these 13 countries: #Brazil, #Canada, #France, #Germany, #India, #Italy, #Kenya, #Mexico, #Philippines, #SouthAfrica, #Spain, #UnitedKingdom, and the #UnitedStates. The research was conducted by the data company Dynata, and field work was done between May 9-28, 2025. Greenpeace noted that, taken together, the countries represent close to 50% of the globe's population.

"The results of the survey showed a whopping 81% of those surveyed would support taxes fossil fuel companies to pay for damages wrought by 'fossil-fuel driven climate disasters.'

"These survey results send a clear message: people are no longer buying the lies. They see the fingerprints of fossil fuel giants all over the storms, floods, droughts, and wildfires devastating their lives, and they want accountability," said #MadsChristensen, the executive director of #GreenpeaceInternational.

" 'It's only fair that those who caused the crisis should pay for the damage, not those suffering from it,' he added.

There's an NGO in #Indonesia that has been happy to speak with me about #Japan or #WorldBank funding for #coal or #fossilfuel projects. 🏭

But when I reached out to them about #China's funding, they ignored my message and then apologized for being "too busy last week" - but I had time and asked if we can do an interview that week or next. They proceeded to do the same thing again! 🤯

Working on another Japan-Indonesia story & bet they'll be responsive, but they've lost my trust.

"Even the most powerful must answer questions:" #Australia ranks 2nd in world on climate litigation reneweconomy.com.au/even-the-m

#Australia remains the second-most active jurisdiction in the world for climate litigations as an increasing number of cases move closer to setting precedents that would allow some of the world’s biggest #FossilFuel producers to be held responsible for climate harms.

RenewEconomy · “Even the most powerful must answer questions:” Australia ranks 2nd in world on climate litigationAs more cases are brought, companies and government are increasingly being forced to take the possibility of climate litigation seriously.
