My freelance quote for your software project.

50 - if you tell me what you want, I confirm the requirements, and I build it for you
100 - if I have to pry a description of what you want out of you like pulling a tooth
250 - if I have to build it on a "company laptop" you supply
350 - if I have to regularly video call with you for no particular reason
400 - if I have to use JIRA
450 - if I have to use Github
500 - if I have to use Zoom
750 - if I have to use Teams
1,250 - if you ever want to "watch me work" by sharing my desktop
1,500 - if the project is fixing something your employees built for you
1,800 - if it's fixing something a previous contractor built
2,500 - if it's fixing / completing a project a previous, cheaper freelancer failed to complete
19,500 - if it's fixing something created with "AI"

Another Saturday; another #RepairCafe. Okay, so that's only true almost 50% of the time. Anyway, another 30 odd items through the door. No stats yet, but at least I have the pics.

I've decided to train up a deputy so that one day I'll actually have an exit strategy, as it would appear that I'm not immortal.

Who knew?

🥳 New Kitten Release

• Fixed regression: Since we switched the h() render function to return a generator (for seamless async support in html templates), two other methods that were calling h() directly – `kitten.safelyAddHtml()` and `kitten.js()` – had begun to fail. This was also affecting the fetchiverse, streamiverse, and kitten-chat family of examples.

Enjoy!

I have a problem:

We had no bedroom curtains when we moved in. As a stopgap I taped two layers of space blanket (aluminium-coated plastic) over the glass so we could sleep.

Later we got curtains and I removed the space blankets. This left a hazy residue on the glass from the blanket itself. Not the tape.

I've failed to clean it off with isopropyl alcohol, ethanol, acetone and a blowtorch. The only thing that slightly worked was a razor blade.

Suggestions?

Happy 10th birthday, #Apple Watch!

It's a cool device, but not very repairable. But Apple's original, analog watch from 1995? Now that's a timepiece you can actually fix. Plus, you don't have to worry about software updates!
The longest an Apple Watch has ever received updates is the Series 4, which got nearly 6 years of support before being sunset last year.
It's a shame that Apple's "most personal device ever" still relies on them to be useful. Even if you can #fix it, you don't truly own it.

Another #repair. This time $80K #sar #drone that they do not sell a replacement antenna.

Prototyping was tedious since I could not fix my high temp filament layer adhesion problems. So even it is sub optimal this antenna is printed with PLA for mechanical strength.
