Bevan Thomas<p>The tote-road shagamaw was a creature of American tall tales. It supposedly had the front legs of a bear and the hind legs of a moose, and would walk half a mile on its front legs then half a mile on its hind legs so that its footprints would confuse hunters and lumberjacks. The shagamaw loved to eat cloth, especially cotton, and so would often steal lumberjacks' shirts.<br>🎨 Coert du Bois</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/FairyTaleTuesday" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FairyTaleTuesday</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Mythology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mythology</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Folklore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Folklore</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/TallTales" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TallTales</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/America" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>America</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/UnitedStates" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UnitedStates</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Cryptid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Cryptid</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Monster" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Monster</span></a></p>

Richard Littler<p>Sorting through photos from 2022. Forgotten that I'd spotted this (whatever *this* is) gliding through a Swiss lake in an area famous for its Stollenwurm/Tatzelwurm <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/folklore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>folklore</span></a>. The Tatzelwurm is kind of an Alpine Loch Ness Monster described as a serpent-like creature with a feline head.<br><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/cryptid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cryptid</span></a></p>

Yesterday, I had to take my daughter to soccer practice at UW-Parkside, which meant cutting across the SE corner of the state. We passed Bray Road, which, nerd that I am, made me really excited. I then proceeded to explain to my daughter about the cryptid reports in the area. She didn't believe until I told her to look it up on my phone.

@llewelly @mike Me too! There are surely few people who want this more than me! To know for sure how a plesiosaur swims, how it uses its long neck, the orientation and function of its tail fin, how it breathes, what colour or pattern, what sounds. It would be a joy to find living plesiosaurs! So, the idea I’m part of a plesiosaur conspiracy is ironic as well as stupid.

But then, I would say that, wouldn’t I…that’s how dastardly and deep the conspiracy goes…😈
