#JustRead #Coders by @clive – an exhilarating look at the history & culture of computer programmers.
My coding ability is limited to self-taught HTML & CSS, but I understand the addictive euphoria of coding that Clive talks about – the high of creating something essentially out of nothing.
I love that coding is one of the few skills that you can teach yourself – & that it demands such a perverse mix of logic, persnicketyness, & artistry.

Welcome. There us no algorithm putting your posts into eyes.
Engagement on Mastodon is by hashtags. Make new hashtags, find well.used ones.
After typing a # Mastodon will the you the number of users for the hashtag.
For example if you type - #usp - Mastodon will say 1.9k under highlight meaning almost two thousand recent posts with rhe US politics hashtag "#uspoli"
Zooming in to see small stuff on Mastodon is a glitchy experience.
Good luck good friends.

#VibeCoding , never heard of it until today. Also: #Wrappers. Hm.
Somehow sounds like things are getting uncomfortable for #coders. Are they?
You can zoom a post with an image by pinch, but clicked images cannot be zoomed.
Also zoomed posts (unclicked) are terribly unstable and will scroll wildly without warning.
I am deeply grateful for mastodon code and instances, this is communication on continued development of a wonderful platform.
I suggested earlier post that coders write an app for browsers that shows the price of Trumps Tariff Taxes on all rhe things.
Many wrote back saying it would be too hard because constantly changing Trump babble and policy changes.
Here is another path, have the app check prices for the product on other nations Amazon's and subtract the difference in real.time. and
That's the Trump Tax
#makers, #coders of the #fediverse, how do you escape the trap of "not doing the thing?"
I spend my whole day at work with ideas for one of my projects popping into my head that I'm excited to implement, but then I get home and play a video game and watch Youtube until I go to bed. Why is it so hard to get started?
Any tips and tricks for making the on-ramp back to where you left off as smooth as possible?
Can we please get rid of "selected for deletion" in replies and edits.
Please, third time this week I had to open previous edits to copy text back into my post because "automatically selected for deletion" deleted the post I was trying to add a preposition to.
Offering translation in #Mastodon
should be EASY, if not automatic. Offering translation should be opt out, not "what are the obscure steps I need to compete so that translation is offered"
Please #mastodon #coders fix the #translate obstacle.
“The story of automation in the US is that it has mostly impacted on manual workers in manufacturing. For example, factory employees — such as carmakers — performing routine tasks have lost their jobs to robots — or lower-cost Asian competitors.
#IndustrialAutomation has tended to affect lower-skilled, #BlueCollar jobs in the “#rustbelt” heartlands and small-town, less-educated communities in the south and midwest.
But a recent study from the #BrookingsInstitution suggests that the communities most exposed to AI-driven job dislocation will be #WhiteCollar information workers. The researchers studied the usage of #OpenAI’s #GenerativeAI tools across more than 1,000 occupations and mapped this against where those jobs were most commonly located.
Their analysis suggests that many #coders, #lawyers, #FinancialAnalysts and #bureaucrats in cities such as San Jose, San Francisco, Durham, New York and Washington DC might want to rethink their futures. But #NonOffice-bound #workers in places such as Las Vegas, Toledo, Ohio and Fort Wayne, Indiana may be less exposed to AI disruption.”
My observation since 2022 when #ChristopherHohn an influential shareholder decided to *speak out* about “reducing its head count and paying (hi-tech) workers less”. [1]
This is the decade where extreme (cost) pressure will be forced on White collar workers by the introduction of AI.

You can set your language of posting to be the sane as your interface. That will turn on Translate to your readers.
Mastodon should make a button, in settings "OFFER Translations" so its easy, explicit and not obfuscated.

Mozilla needs new governance. New Board.
And an end to google money.

Fox News on Mastodon through effing bluesky bullshit api effing sharing?
No. Redacted. REDACTED.
I swear too much. But ffs get them off, end the blusky shit API .
This is a demand. Or a moderator request, but we have warned about creeping fascism of bluesky for YEARS NOW.

I just noticed the coders moved the alt and hide symbols on images to the right.
Thank you, thank you.
With the tiny alt and hide icons on the right, images that often contain text are less often obscured.
