According to the Maine Geological Survey, the rocks here are mostly metamorphic with some igneous. The gray layered rock is called gneiss and it was originally sediments at the bottom of the ocean that were metamorphosed 360-415 million years ago into what you see here. The light gray/whitish igneous rock is called pegmatite.
