Painting vs. photo
This view of Big Sur is from a little rooftop cafe above a gift shop. I used to enjoy eating at the cafe with my mom and perusing the gift shop below afterwards. The photo was taken during one of those outings.

The ancient Egyptian version of today's date seems awfully appropriate:
"First month of Inundation, day 13"

aaaand, here comes the latest warning-worthy storm - this one has vicious lightning to add to the incessant rain of the immediately prior storms

Drove into #Sydney today, northern suburbs, not even the city itself, and THERE BE REASONS why I don’t live there. So many cars! Heavy traffic, made me 20 minutes late. Gimme the #centralCoast any time.

Boil water alert for NSW Central Coast!
Residents in nine suburbs are being urged to boil their drinking water after E. coli was detected in a reservoir. The news has sparked a rush on bottled water, with some supermarkets already selling out.

Had the privilege yesterday of touring the Paulucci Studios of KCLU Radio, one of the premier news organizations on California’s Central Coast or anywhere else. This excellent resource on the California Lutheran University campus is required listening for me every morning and whenever news breaks.
Like all NPR stations, KLCU is listener-supported. I’m so glad thousands of others have joined my wife and me in supporting KCLU and local journalism. The station also hosts a classroom and lab for CLU’s journalism students.
The Common Mynahs nesting in our yard are having their eggs eaten by a rival species. I suspect either the local Little Wattlebirds or Noisy Miners, but it could also be a Butcherbird that often visits the area.
This is the second pecked-open egg I have found on the ground beneath their nest.
The mystery continues...
(I'm not bothered about the Common Mynahs getting attacked, as they're becoming a pest in the area as there are so many - and they must be having an impact on other species) #australia #birds #nature #wildlife #ecology #gardens #nsw #centralcoast

I just discovered that the new 4km section of shared bike path to The Entrance is now complete and open.
I only sampled 1km, but was impressed by the frequent sprinkling of rest areas with seats and bike racks, and the bike repair station, with stand, pump, and assortment of tools on retractable security cables.

Please remember the work of bicycling advocates when making donations.
Since 2009, Bicycling Monterey provides inspiration and resources for people who bike anywhere! Bicycling Monterey also serves as Information Hub for Biking Monterey County and is the county’s local partner of the California Bicycle Coalition.

In these final weeks of 2024, we’re looking for bike heroes, people to help shine a light into the new year. Hear “We’re All Heroes,” a 2009 audio from the founder on what led to Bicycling Monterey being launched that year. https://bikemonterey.org/
How would Morro Bay’s stacks be demolished and a new battery plant built? See the plan
@Swede1952 I've seen an Osprey locally here in #Australia flying along nonchalantly with a small **Stingray** in its talons. These small Stingrays are v common in the shallow water of the local bays - and they do have a v nasty barbed sting. Wonder how the Ospreys manage to avoid it?
