Helen Branswell<p>The pediatric death toll from <a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/flu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>flu</span></a> for 2024-25 continues to climb, with <a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/CDC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CDC</span></a> informed of 5 more deaths last week. That brings the season's total so far to 266, which is only 22 fewer than during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic! Of kids eligible for vax & for whom vax status is known, 90% weren't vaxed.<br>This is unlikely the total story for the 2024-25 <a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/flu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>flu</span></a> season. Pediatric flu deaths are sometimes reported to <a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/CDC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CDC</span></a> on a significant delay. Case in point: Last week CDC was informed of a child who died from flu in Jan 2024, bringing the 2023-24 pediatric toll to 208. <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/fluview/surveillance/2025-week-29.html" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">cdc.gov/fluview/surveillance/2</span><span class="invisible">025-week-29.html</span></a></p>
