Sapphire<p>For those of you who have been following The saga of Basil Steve:</p><p>Steve Junior bit the dust a while back. Too many bugs, and several limbs just went limp. So we put him to rest. </p><p>Steve senior is still going strong (he's taller than me!) and has started to flower. I have thus been able to narrow down his species to either Thai Basil or Cinnamon Basil. I can't confirm exactly which one. His stems have turned purple but they were originally brown. </p><p>I appreciate any guidance anybody can provide. </p><p>We have decided to let him flower completely so the pollinators can have their turn with him. </p><p>We took a new cutting from him a couple of weeks ago (Basil Steve III) and are nursing it in the house for now. </p><p><a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/Basil" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Basil</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/Herbs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Herbs</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/Gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gardening</span></a></p>

Henry<p>So the <a href="https://social.lol/tags/Basil" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Basil</span></a> was doing ok, and trimming the top so it splits and becomes bushier also shorter...but now the lower leaves are yellow and sad, plus there are grey patches on them. What have I done wrong here? Too much water, too little, too much sun. Some kind of mould or fungus? I haven't added any fertiliser, so it can't be too much of that. Any <a href="https://social.lol/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> people got any tips please?</p><p><a href="https://social.lol/tags/askfedi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>askfedi</span></a></p>
Tom<p>Indoor growing and seed starting update. The lettuce is growing fast and one pot makes about two nice sized bowls of salad. Most of the basil has sprouted except the Thai and Holy Green. All the Jalapeno and Red Marconi pepper pots sprouted, none of the California Wonder bell pepper did so I replanted with some fatter seeds to see if maybe it was a seed maturity issue.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/SeedStarting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SeedStarting</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GrowYourOwn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GrowYourOwn</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/peppers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>peppers</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/basil" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>basil</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/lettuce" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>lettuce</span></a></p>

Henry<p>Why do I think that <a href="https://social.lol/tags/BasilDon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BasilDon</span></a> is not the right hashtag for this?</p><p>We got a random packet of <a href="https://social.lol/tags/Basil" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Basil</span></a> seeds, which we planted, but didn't initially give them enough light, so they're a bit floppy and thin.
