"Having so much Korean talent or people influenced by Korean media on the crew made it possible. Because we could say to one of our animators, 'Do you remember that one expression the girl makes in the K-drama "Weightlifting Fairy"? Can you find us 50 GIFs of other moments like that from other K-dramas?' And the next day, he’d be like, 'Here’s the full range of eye twitches and mouth shapes.'"

Not lost on me that as birthright citizenship is being challenged today, it was because of Wong Kim Ark that we have it at all.

It’s AANHPI month, which we are celebrating at work. I complain these terms are arbitrary (and they are) but also they think we are all the same anyway.

While I can’t do a ton about national legislation, I can do a lot in my community. As an East Asian person, making space for South, Southeast and other Asians and NH (Native Hawaiian) and PI (Pacific Islander) people is absolutely what I want to do. I’m helping to organize some activities at work that spotlight other cultures in our alphabet soup.

Also RIP Henry Fuhrmann, whose exhortation to drop the hyphen in Asian-American vastly expanded and included people who can consider themselves Asian American. Undocumented people. People who don’t yet have citizenship, or won’t, or can’t.

The town next to Monterey is doing a festival called Good Ol’ Days. I wonder if those good old days include the days when they burned down the Chinese villages to take over the fishing business; or the good old days when white people dressed up as Chinese people.. that only ended.. in 2022

Can you tell I don’t love this town at all haha

today i'm at an AAPI book club and changed it to 'what's your favorite rice dish? and if you don't like rice, you can pick something else'

nobody picked something else
