diana 🏳️‍⚧️🦋🌱<p>So...I booted an old <a href="https://lgbtqia.space/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> partition from four years ago and it brought up a familiar <a href="https://lgbtqia.space/tags/XFCE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>XFCE</span></a> desktop with the classic CDE/Motif theme from a more civilized age, right where I left off.</p><p>I had "arch-audit" installed and did a security scan. I'm now updating all the security holes, including that notorious "xz" incident. I also removed the obnoxious Brave browser and replaced it with <a href="https://lgbtqia.space/tags/Waterfox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Waterfox</span></a>, which has been a delightful Firefox replacement for both the desktop and the hardened Android <a href="https://lgbtqia.space/tags/GrapheneOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GrapheneOS</span></a>.</p><p>Feels good going back in time like it was yesterday.</p>
Ruben ~ Kedara.eu<p>I've been using <a href="https://kedara.social/tags/debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Debian</span></a> for a couple of weeks now, combined with <a href="https://kedara.social/tags/xfce" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Xfce</span></a>. It's really quite snappy.<br><br>Before, I used Fedora with KDE, but the system used to break without warning after updates or installing new packages. So I spent the last few weeks reinstalling everything and restoring my backups 😅<br><br>That was probably my fault, but for me, Debian is really living up to its solid reputation. It allows me to focus on stuff that's more interesting to me. So I'm very happy with the switch so far!<br><br><a href="https://kedara.social/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a></p>

Eugenia L<p>One more screenshot of the classic MacOS 8/9 theme under XFce. Honestly, from all the themes I've done, this one I enjoy the most. Yes, that sounds likely. <br>It's just weird it only happens once on the first iteration. Thereafter, no matter how many times I let the system idle over the many days/weeks of system uptime, it works fine so long as I restart pulseaudio user daemon just the one time.</p><p>There are no logs anywhere that show the issue, just the CPU activity observation against the xfce wrapper for the panel.</p><p>Perhaps it only affects some systems like <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>debian</span></a> because it doesn't yet use <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/pipewire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pipewire</span></a> for audio within the <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/xfce" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>xfce</span></a> desktop.</p><p>I know the fix, so can work around this for now. I'll see if I can do more investigation on next reboot and determine if I have enough information to be able to log a bug that is sufficiently detailed for someone to debug properly.</p>
Mason Pines<p>A weird thing I've noticed on my <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>debian</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/trixie" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>trixie</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/xfce" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>xfce</span></a> desktop is that I get heavy CPU usage the first time after the machine has been left idle for 10 minutes or more.</p><p>To explain.</p><p>I have Power Manager set to manage Display Power, but both Put to Sleep and Switch Off are both set to Never (i.e. do not run).</p><p>There is no <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/xfce" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>xfce</span></a> screensaver installed.</p><p>Lightdm is used as the login manager, which means light-locker is in place.</p><p>If I leave the PC alone, after 10 minutes the display will go off, despite the Power Manager being set to Never.</p><p>If I then move the mouse to wake it up, the display comes back on. The system is not locking, just putting display to sleep.</p><p>At which point the <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/xfce" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>xfce</span></a> panel-wrapper consumes 100% of 1 core and stays that way forever unless I do something.</p><p>I have found running `systemctl --user restart pulseaudio.service` fixes the problem.</p><p>It only happens once, all times after that when the display goes off do not create any impact.</p><p>Any ideas anyone?</p>
