Has anyone else noticed Virtualbox since 7.2.x becoming extremely unstable when it comes to running "modern Linux guests" (like Ubuntu 24.04.LTS)? 🤔

(The host is a 64GB Windows 11 machine with only one or two guests running at any given time. None of the guests are given more than 16GB, sometimes it's 6-8GB.)

Proxmox’s main offering is Virtual Environment (#PVE), hyperconverged infrastructure that allows users to run and manage #virtualmachines and #containers
Datacenter Manager has been developed with objective of providing centralized overview of all of your individual nodes and clusters. It also enables basic management like migrations of virtual guests.

The Register · Proxmox delivers datacenter manager beta that makes it a more viable VMware contenderBy Simon Sharwood

In the past, I recall successfully running DistroBox and Podman with VirtualBox.

However, this setup doesn’t seem to work well on NixOS. While it’s possible to get VirtualBox working with QEMU (albeit with some difficulty), the performance hit is substantial.

I've improved the virtualization options.

The user is guided through the choice of using DistroBox and Podman. If they select that option, they are advised to skip VirtualBox and instead use the optional "Virtualization stack: QEMU/KVM + libvirt + GUI tools," which I believe I've configured to work just as well as VirtualBox.

Although, as always, feedback is welcome.

DRS but for #Proxmox? Yes!

With #ProxLB (free and #opensource / #GPLv3) you can get something which comes close to it - also featuring things like affinity/anti-affinity rules, node pinning, grouping and maintenance mode for multiple nodes. And if you’re even more interested, there’ll be a talk about my project at the #DutchProxmoxDay next month :)
