The Vinyl Ape 🦧<p>BLACK SABBATH<br>Paranoid<br>2025 U.S. Ltd. Ed. Reissue<br>Rhino High Fidelity pressing</p><p>Yesterday, while my 16yr old was being bombarded with Ozzy news and tributes, he turns to me and says:</p><p> “Dad, I really don’t know Black Sabbath that well. People seem to really love him. EVERYONE seems really sad. I know OF them, but have never listened. Would I like them?”</p><p>“I don’t know son. Why don’t you give them a listen?”</p><p>“Which ones should I do?”</p><p>“Black Sabbath and Paranoid. There’s a few copies of Paranoid in my collection. You can have it. Prepare yourself, though. It’s pretty dark.”</p><p>Little did I know, he took my ONLY Paranoid. 😂 <br>So, I went out today and bought this INSANE sounding Rhino Hi-Fi pressing, and I am beyond pleased with it. </p><p>First this, then BLACK SABBATH.</p><p>And my son?<br>He’s DUMBFOUNDED by Bill Ward and Geezer Butler. </p><p>“The rhythm section is insane, dad.”</p><p>Yes they are, son. </p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylrecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylrecords</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcollection</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcommunity</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vintage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintage</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/Ozzy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Ozzy</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/blacksabbath" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>blacksabbath</span></a></p>

The Vinyl Ape 🦧<p>TOM WAITS<br>Blue Valentine<br>1978 Canada pressing</p><p>One hell of an appropriate album for last spin at 11:55 pm on a Saturday Night. </p><p>It’s borderline impossible for me to pick a favorite Tom album. They’re all so distinctive, and I’ve heard every single one hundreds of times, so I just don’t think I could do it. And when you’re dealing with such a vast, incredible catalog, why should you have to.</p><p>Blue Valentine, however, has two of my all-time favorite Tom SONGS on it in “Christmas Card From A Hooker In Minneapolis” and “Whistlin’ Past The Graveyard”.</p><p>As much as I love the weirdo junkyard Tom (do I EVER), when I’m exhausted in the late night hours, NOTHING beats his early barfly piano man albums.<br>After this one, he’d only make one more like that before shit started to get weird.<br>Like… REALLY weird.<br>See: Swordfishtrombones.</p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylrecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylrecords</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcollection</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcommunity</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vintage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintage</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/tomwaits" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tomwaits</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/bluevalentine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bluevalentine</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/1970s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>1970s</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/70s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>70s</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/70smusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>70smusic</span></a></p>

FUCKING MASCIS.</p><p>As they hail from my neck of the woods, I fell in love with Dinosaur almost instantly. They’re are without question one of my three favorite bands of all time, and I have seen them live more times than any other band. It’s definitely my favorite album of theirs, and definitely the most engaging to MY ears. John Eckman<p><strong>John Coltrane, A Love Supreme, 1965 on Impulse!</strong></p><p>Accompanying Coltrane here are McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums. Recorded by Rudy Van Gelder in Hackensack in December 1964 but not released until 1965. </p><p>Arguably Coltrane’s masterpiece (perhaps second to Giant Steps?) and still one of his best selling albums (and platinum certified by RIAA). The chant of “a love supreme” during the opening phase “Acknowledgement” is Coltrane himself, apparently overdubbed 19 times – atypical for the kind of recordings Van Gelder was doing in the mid-sixties. </p><p>My copy is a 2021 reissue in orange vinyl – Impulse! orange – that was sold in multiple retailers (I got it via the uDiscover music online store owned by UMG). </p><p><a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/1960s" target="_blank">#1960s</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/1965" target="_blank">#1965</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/elvin-jones" target="_blank">#ElvinJones</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/impulse" target="_blank">#Impulse</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/jazz" target="_blank">#jazz</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/jimmy-garrison" target="_blank">#JimmyGarrison</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/john-coltrane" target="_blank">#JohnColtrane</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/mccoy-tyner" target="_blank">#McCoyTyner</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/rudy-van-gelder" target="_blank">#RudyVanGelder</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/udiscover-music" target="_blank">#uDiscoverMusic</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/umg" target="_blank">#UMG</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/vinyl" target="_blank">#vinyl</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://goatless.org/tag/vinylcollection" target="_blank">#vinylcollection</a></p>

I pulled this out. Funny, I don't think of playing this album when I feel like listening to The Cars. The first and second lps are the ones I grew up with. So someone saying it's their favorite Cars album is an interesting perspective. But, yeah, it's a really good record, even if the lyrics can be pretty goofy. But they've always had some goofy lyrics, even on those first 2 records. Nevertheless, I've had the complete Cars discography for a while; it's not hard--they all exist in great abundance and the later ones especially won't really set you back financially. But, for me, diminishing returns on Cars records after this.</p><p><a href="https://beige.party/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/vinylCollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylCollection</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/nowPlaying" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nowPlaying</span></a></p>
