Goois Nature Reserve

The photo shows the letters 'GNR' cut out of a heavily textured, dark reddish-brown metal surface. Goois Nature Reserve manages and protects over 2,800 hectares of vulnerable nature in the densely populated Randstad region.

This is a bit difficult to explain, but here we go: detail shot of a wall, with a series of rectangular corners, expanding from the top left hand of the corner of the image, like a stack of paintings or papers or books laid one on top of each other, in order of size. Or, like a chart showing different paper sizes. The first and smallest, in the top left corner, has three small bricks, standing out from the wall, in a sort of frame. Next is an ornate carved relief border, with ribbons undulating to form circles which have flowers inside them; this too is contained within a narrow frame, like that of a painting, which casts a dark and jaggedy-edged shadow . The rest of the wall is uneven textured plaster, which has fallen away in the bottom right hand corner to expose some rough brick. The whole is in shades of pastel red, and basking in sunshine.

Closeup of a glass eye in a sculpted elephant head made from thick stems of wood, bent and nailed into place over an internal frame. The stems create a striped, ridged surface in brown tones that follows the contours of the head and eyelid, as the pupil reflects a bit of blue sky.

The Great Elephant Migration is a traveling art installation that consists of 100 life-size wooden sculptures modeled after real individual elephants. The sculptures are made from Lantana camara, an invasive weed that pushes the elephants and other species out of their native habitats in India. The project is beneficial on many levels as it employs indigenous artisans to create the sculptures, clears the Lantana from elephant habitats, and uses proceeds from the sale of individual pieces to fund further conservation efforts. The image is a close-up shot of a dense patch of vibrant green moss. The moss consists of numerous tiny, upright stems covered in small, needle-like leaves, creating a textured, almost carpet-like appearance. Interspersed within the green foliage are several thin, pale brown or yellowish stalks, possibly the sporophytes (spore-bearing structures) of the moss. The lighting is even, illuminating the intricate details of the moss structure. The overall impression is one of natural beauty and intricate botanical detail.

This close-up captures the textured surface of tree bark, from a very old tree, with a uniform grey tone and deep crevices. The texture is rough and irregular, with numerous small bumps, ridges, and deeper indentations creating a very tactile impression. In the center of the image, there are carved or deeply etched characters that are difficult to decipher clearly due to the rugged surface and similar tone.
