Pure and simple money laundering and corruption and all those boring crimes that very rarely get high-profile trials.</p><p>Second, it won't save this government. The economy is crashing and they're going down with it. </p><p>Third, when our current assholes go down the next government won't honor any protection deals. Extradition treaties are still in force. We're not a hereditary dictatorship, a pariah nation or a failed state. Hell, we're not even a tax haven. </p><p>And fourth, it's not <em>that</em> much money. Kind of security we're talking here, US allies elsewhere can deliver because of mutual investments in resources and defense dating from the XXth century that are orders of magnitude bigger. No need to rattle off names I guess.</p>
