Ceramic tile on which a vibrant bird is perched on a branch surrounded by colorful flowers and leaves, showcasing a rich array of blues, purples, and greens. On the left side of the image is a highly decorated pillar. The date "1561" is inscribed in the lower right corner. Digital filters have been applied to the photograph to create a dreamy rendition of the original.

This tile was photographed at Fonthill Castle, located in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Completed in 1912, Fonthill Castle was built by American archaeologist and tile maker, Henry
Chapman Mercer. Mercer built the home as a showcase for his collection of ceramic tiles and prints. In addition to his own Arts and Crafts tiles, you can also view Mercer's collections from Persia, China, Spain and Holland.
