Vincent Tunru<p>On the train to FOSDEM I quickly but finally bashed out a long-planned post on the Solid app I wrote that allows you to post to the Fediverse from your Solid Pod.</p><p>Main takeway: cool experiment, but <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@activitypods" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>activitypods</span></a></span> have the more feasible approach for now.</p><p><a href="https://vincenttunru.com/solid-fediverse-mastodon/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">vincenttunru.com/solid-fediver</span><span class="invisible">se-mastodon/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SolidProject" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SolidProject</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/ActivityPub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ActivityPub</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fediverse</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mastodon</span></a></p>
JG10<p>Inspired by <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://noeldemartin.social/@noeldemartin" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>noeldemartin</span></a></span> , I'm experimenting with my own "now" page describing progress on my current projects related to <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/SolidProject" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SolidProject</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://jg10.solidcommunity.net/devlog/home.html#now" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">jg10.solidcommunity.net/devlog</span><span class="invisible">/home.html#now</span></a></p><p>I already use this Mastodon account as a devlog and build a wiki based on this content.</p><p>The now page allows for (slightly) longer form reflection as well as being organised by project rather than by topic or as a firehose.</p>
JG10<p>I've now started automating upload of my Mastodon outbox to my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/SolidProject" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SolidProject</span></a> pod</p><p><a href="https://github.com/jg10-mastodon-social/upload-mastodon-solid.R/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/jg10-mastodon-socia</span><span class="invisible">l/upload-mastodon-solid.R/</span></a></p><p>Outbox is mirrored at <a href="https://jg10.solidcommunity.net/devlog/home.html#mastodon" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">jg10.solidcommunity.net/devlog</span><span class="invisible">/home.html#mastodon</span></a></p>

Angelo Veltens 🏳️‍🌈<p>I did a bit of a redesign for the generic <a href="https://social.veltens.org/tags/PodOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PodOS</span></a> data browser. Less clutter &amp; redundancy, focus on human-readable labels &amp; information, while all details can still be accessed if needed.</p><p>Try it out yourself at <a href="https://browser.pod-os.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">browser.pod-os.org/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://social.veltens.org/tags/Solid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Solid</span></a> <a href="https://social.veltens.org/tags/SolidProject" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SolidProject</span></a></p>
JG10<p>I think there's a tendency for devs to keep thinking in database terms when moving to <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/SolidProject" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SolidProject</span></a> </p><p>What clicked for me is to instead think of <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/LinkedData" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LinkedData</span></a> in terms of human-sized pages.</p><p>Yes, pages still need to offer app performance and few users would edit raw RDF, but a page is still a comfortable bite of content.</p><p>Similar to HTML pages but without the presentation layer, I can take one bite at a time, and follow links to find more, with my browser loading and caching extra bites as needed</p>
JG10<p>In the context of <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/SolidProject" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SolidProject</span></a>, it often comes up that I want to say something about a resource that I don't control.</p><p>I can't just edit the remote resource. </p><p>Instead, I've noticed three patterns so far:<br>- Say things about a local equivalent, linked with sameAs<br>- Keep a local mirror of the remote resource, which is editable; redirect the remote to the local<br>- Define a local annotation store for the remote resource</p>
dbat :godot:<p><a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/SolidProject" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SolidProject</span></a> </p><p>I wish <a href="https://solidproject.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">solidproject.org/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> made more sense to me. </p><p>It just seems like they have taken web-hosting concepts and renamed them all.</p><p>What's the actual novelty? No idea; and it's buried in an avalanche of new acronyms.</p><p>I be dumb!</p>
JG10<p>Rather than waiting for bugs to be fixed, here's a WIP note editor I've been working on and using, working with a <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/SolidProject" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SolidProject</span></a> pod.</p><p><a href="https://jg10.solidcommunity.net/notes/notes2.html" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">jg10.solidcommunity.net/notes/</span><span class="invisible">notes2.html</span></a></p><p>Provides a Google Keep-like list of cards, but built on a folder of plain text files, inspired by the now defunct Denkzettel app<br><a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20220819083331/https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.silli.notizen" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">web.archive.org/web/2022081908</span><span class="invisible">3331/https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.silli.notizen</span></a></p><p>A text-loader &amp; (buggy) virtualised list component do most interaction with the server, leveraging <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/PodOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PodOS</span></a> </p><p>Migrating my notes to this app involved copying my text files into my pod.</p>

JG10<p>I am blown away by the effectiveness of service worker caching in front of a <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/SolidProject" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SolidProject</span></a> server thanks to the power of the web.</p><p>I am close to an offline PWA simply by serving cached resources and storing pending changes in local storage. </p><p>Still need to handle etags, and conflict detection and an automated sync queue would be nice, but considering all the logic so far is in the service worker, it's looking like a promising approach.</p>
