Reposting this announcement about my website, now that I have my teeny tiny instance running on the Fediverse. It's also going to be the first image I post to this new instance :)
Every few years I try to rethink what it means to share my work online, and give the website a bit of a cut and polish. I always feel like I'm fighting gravity.
This week I've focused on the home page, and trying to make it easy for someone to find something they might be interested in. 25 years of work has gone into it, you'd hope there's a little treat for most folks hidden away in there.

I try not to add anxiety or instability to the world – one good way to do this is to pay your contractors & small business vendors as soon as you get the invoice instead of letting it sit
Cash flow is always complicated for the self employed, startups, and micro-businesses...don't be the reason someone can't continue building their business or career

Next topic is when you over-service your clients, and spend time they aren't paying for. But you want to to finish the job to a high standard, and you do the extra work anyway.
The older lad points out, we do this because we don't value ourselves enough. Not just our work, but we lack confidence in ourselves. Deep down. We keep trying to be high-achievers, or people-pleasers.
We try to please people, and we bust a gut in the process.

Older lad pointed out that his entire career he's made sure he takes holidays and spends a little time with his wife and kids. That's the top priority.
The young lad doesn't even take holidays. Which he's thinking maybe is a bit shit for his family and maybe he needs to rethink that.

I just wrapped up my last client call of the week and felt such a feeling of satisfaction.
It's taken me years to put together the pieces of how I can do my best work (more) sustainably, while also attracting clients who are actually invested in the serious work of innovation, change, and growth -- along with the growing pains.

Here’s a memory from last year:
Ha! In getting a box of blackberries from the fridge, I glanced at its label. It said, “Best if enjoyed by…” but I was thinking about #work, so my brain translated that to “Best if #SelfEmployed by…” 
I just had studio visitors two days in a row and it makes me reflect on how #ecommerce frees me up from worrying about sales when I’m interacting with people. Since all of that is taken care of in the digital realm, I can use my in-person encounters to simply share my passion, educate, etc. without also hoping that they buy something. Everyday I’m grateful for how technology has revolutionized what it means to be a #SelfEmployed artist.
Thinking of augmenting my income by becoming a virtual assistant. Does anyone have any experience in that area? Any advice or suggestions?

I just realized that I am actually #selfemployed now.
I set up #financial services to get paid. Work in progress. But I have one active way and more in progress.
I am trying to make a presence online.
I have spent an entire week doing nothing but #research and #creative things, and actually WORKING MY ASS OFF.
Going places. Walked ALL of the steps.
Talking to people.
Then I've actually made USEFUL #money online and in real life doing things.
I literally got so pissed I made a #job !!! O.o
Kinda glad I kept some old PC stuff, I think I'm gonna set up my gaming/streaming desktop, a Writing Only laptop, and my Recreation Laptop
I don't have two gaming-ready desktops for one streaming one recreation, but there's still some separation of duties, I think that's nice when possible
Hm, I guess even a different user profile would help force me into a different (forgive me) paradigm.
