Idaho Gave Families $50M to Spend on Private Education. Then It Ended a $30M Program Used by Public School Families.

A Republican lawmaker said ending an Idaho program that helped public school students buy laptops and other materials wasn’t linked to the creation of a private school tax credit. The state’s most prominent conservative group says it should be.

The amount of work and perseverance it’s taken me to accrue 24 University credits over the past 12 months has been significantly more difficult than I imagined.

Has it been worth it? Going back to University in my late 30’s?

Absolutely.

✅It’s given me purpose.
✅ It’s helped me develop better critical thinking skills.
✅ It’s opened my eyes to disciplines I knew nothing about.
✅ It’s given my overactive mind a place to grow.
✅ It’s taught me that my learning disabilities do not define me. I am worthy and capable.

💜🫶🏻 Here’s to the next year!

"#Primarium is a [...] educational project by TypeTogether which studied the methods of Latin script-based handwriting instruction for primary school children, spanning five continents and about one-quarter of the world.
In early 2022, independent type foundry #TypeTogether embarked on a [...] research project to explore the state of Latin script-based handwriting education in primary schools in over 40 countries [...]. The result of this [...] extensive project is Primarium, a freely accessible resource designed to serve the typographic and educational communities.
The study aims to collect and organise crucial information about #handwriting education in primary schools, including its role in #school curricula, the #handwritingmodels and resources used, and the teaching methods employed in classrooms. In an era where digital devices are increasingly prevalent, the issue of handwriting #education has become a topic of debate in educational, pedagogical, and typographical circles." #typography #lettering

"Last year, heat waves forced millions of children in the #Philippines out of #school. It was the first time that soaring temperatures had caused widespread class suspensions, prompting a series of changes.

This school year started two months earlier than usual, so the term ends before peak heat in May. Classes have been rearranged to keep children out of the midday heat, and schools are equipped with fans and water stations."

Anyone who is blind, or who has worked with the blind, knows how expensive our technology can be. This couldn't be more true with relation to braille displays. Even the cheapest costs at least $799, and it's already behind the newest in that line, at $899. This is the Orbit Reader 20 and 20+. Now, a student in India wants to change that by creating a display that is truly affordable (under $50)! Please pass this on, so that we can give him greater recognition within the blind community. Even if it costs a bit more than he initially suspected it would, there is no excuse for the $2,000 to $5,000 average price of such technology when cheaper alternatives can be designed! He is determined to bring this to market, so let's help him do it and show our appreciation for his hard work on this life-changing project!

Gave my students a fun task yesterday, accidentally.

One kid asked when my birthday is, and I replied: "why don't you try to figure that out?"

Turns out to be pretty difficult for them. I have no social media presence apart from this account, I have no blog, am no longer active on any forums (and used aliases when I was, aliases that they have zero chance of guessing), etc.
