I saw today that my CoCalc (https://cocalc.com/) license was about to renew. I've been meaning to move to a more #SelfHosting or #P2P paradigm, so this was good timing for me to cancel. I left this message when doing so:
"I want to support Sage, and I like using CoCalc, but I don't want to put money towards a service that supports Microsoft, Amazon, or OpenAI in any way. I didn't care so much about this before, and I even log in to CoCalc with a GitHub account, but I'm tired of having my work scraped for profit by people who donate to fascists who are destroying my nation. I would consider returning if all ties to these corporations were cut and cloud computing services came from responsible companies, perhaps in the EU."
I'm pretty sure I already have backups of everything I want from GitHub, so I can be done with them too. I should have quit when Microsoft first arrived. My plan is to switch to Radicle (https://radicle.xyz/) rather than another centralized service. I'll be sure to post about how that goes.

Im Februar biete ich wieder ein #Holzfällercamp für #Kids ab 8 Jahren an. Termin: 20./21.02. Wir ziehen wie früher mit #Axt und #Säge in den #Wald #DresdnerHeide, fällen eine kleine Birke (natürlich mit dem Förster abgesprochen), #schnitzen schöne #Löffel daraus und kochen am #Feuer eine Holzfällersuppe.

This is the obituary of a 56-year old researcher. The reason I'm asking is a rather shocking way to cite his work.
One of his co-authors now published a paper in which whatis said is his greatest achievement is reproduced in length, with a slight addition, and at last on p8 cites:
"After lengthy manipulations [25], we can rewrite eq…"

The plaintiff is Lucina Uddin (@lucinauddin), a professor of psychology at #UCLA.
The six publisher defendants are #Elsevier, #Sage, #SpringerNature, #TaylorAndFrancis, #Wiley, and #WoltersKluwer. Another defendant is the #STM_Association, a publisher trade organization.
There are also 50 individual defendants ("John Does 1 through 50”) whose names will be revealed later.
Well today I collected 'some fresh cut sage' that was offered to our #CommunityFridge. However, 'some' turned out to be a large black bin bag full. Rehomed a lot of it to local pubs and restaurants who will have some sage related dishes on their menus soon and a local herbalist will be making potions with it too.
My first attempt at multi-seeded sourdough baguettes. 5.5hrs in the proofer @ 26°C using a San Francisco levain, 9% scalded home milled Wakelyn’s Population wheat grain, 5% scalded cracked Emmer grain, 6% scalded home milled pulses, 80% very strong white Canadian flour, sage plus 65g mixed seeds. Overnight in the fridge @ 6°C, baking tomorrow morning.
