And so the comet formerly known as #SWAN25F has finally received an official designation: C/2025 F2 (SWAN). The respective CBET cbat.eps.harvard.edu/iau/cbet/ is just out: perihelion will be on 1 May at 1/3 au, coinciding with a predicted peak magnitude of 3.6 - albeit at an elongation of only 19° and "highly uncertain" as the brightness behavior so far isn't well understood and "[o]bservers have commented on a clear outburst in brightness having occurred around April 5." Here #comet #SWAN25F images taken today early morning 8th April from my remote observatory at Spain. SWAN25F is quite low in the morning sky near Pegasus square upper area between stars Alpheratz and Scheat. It's magnitude is about 9, tail visible almost one degree toward PA 300deg and coma diameter is 5'. Animation 18x30sec in the link below shows also moving tail details.
