So, stubborn me now is running #DecentSampler sucessfully on #IOS 12.

Which does work, while IOS 15 does not. No clicks, no pops. Okay, I'm not using sample sets that make use of extensive #IR #Reverb that is possible with Decent Sampler.

This only works for me with a dead old #Swissonic #MIDI #USB interface that can be switched to use its output as a MIDI THRU port. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to feed the incoming signal into my additional hardware synthesizer without a dedicated MIDI THRU box.

The alternative route to use the USB port of the #Roland #GI20 /
#GK3b failed since this apparently only works driverless on #Linux.

My wife says, she loves to simply play the piano, just open the lid, no electricity, no shit… I think she is so much wiser than me. Plus, she's a real good pianist.

But stubborn me insisted on playing percussion samples with the bass-to-midi system, so stupid me had to go through this.

@nielso @_slotek_ Sorry to hear that. #Latency is surely an issue with low frequencies. There will always be a perceptible delay which becomes uncomfortable above 30ms but won't go below that either because of algorithmic latency + ADC latency. Is there less latency on higher strings?
Since it all comes down to algorithms, someday a new one might arrive to solve all our big-buffer problems in the low range ;) That's why I'd go #Cycfi rather than #Roland because of updateability of the actual part that tracks the pitch.

Kurz live vom Main Out gezogenes „Proof of Concept”, das ich letztens mal gemacht hab… #Sequencer und #NordDrum-Samples in #vcvRack, letzteres auch als zentrale MIDI-Clock.

Weitere Klangerzeuger Outboard: #Waldorf Rocket, Waldorf Streichfett, #Roland JD-XA, #Ensoniq ESQ-1.

Müsste das mal alles in Einzelspuren in Mixbus aufnehmen (bei meinem Outboard easy, bei VCV muss man immer etwas schrauben, aber Linux-sei dank geht es).

Having watched some demos and reviews of the #Boss / #Roland #SY200 #Guitar #Synthesizer I must really ask the question: Is anybody really using this thing?

Among the many presets I heard, there was not a single one that sounded like something usable to my ears. Example: youtube.com/watch?v=XYua-uo0_q

Is it because all these guitar players don't have a sense for synth sounds? Or is it because this pedal is… crap?

Or is it, because it's Roland's #ZenCore synth engine again, the plasticy digital algorithm collection they stuff into every plastic box they're making today, ranging from keyboard synthesizers over guitar synths to digital wind instruments?

Unfortunately, their last analog #bass-to-MIDI converter, the Roland GI-20, is super rare these days (requires the GK3b special pickup and a 13-pin cable, which are still available).

Would be nice to have one of these, there is no lack of decent synths in this world of mine.

Machines such as lasercutters and plotters, produce output based on the actual stroke of the image. How about? There could be an in-between view where wireframe and final rendering would be overlayed. It would be useful to expose more of the intermediate steps between the construction of the wireframe and how they are processed."

A little upgrade for our Roland TD-1K electronic drum kit that we bought back in 2020.

Gained a few extra bars and clamps off eBay and managed to separate each individual drum element to one side of the kit.

This solved the issue of the cymbal hits triggering the toms or vice versa when two elements were too close together.

Now it plays even better. And looks a lot more compact.

We have an electronic drum set up with a stool and amp on a burgundy mat in a room. The drums are mainly black with white edges for the pads and white cymbals. Beyond the kit and mat is beige wooden flooring and a dark grey sofa. The walls are white and there's a radiator next to the kit.

Then, we moved to an exploration of the musical instruments with #MIDI output.

This option seemed to be a great compromise between [relatively] clean sonic data output while keeping the fragile layers of ethnographic context [relatively] intact.

Since the RomChords project focuses primarily on harmonic accompaniments for guitar and accordion, we worked with a #Roland FR-1x #MidiAccordion and a #Jamstik #MidiGuitar.

@superflippy @futurebird for me one of the main differentiator of hardware synths and software is the human interface. At a minimum, I can adjust two knobs at a time. With sliders, many more. With software with a mouse... one, and not in a satisfying way.

Pictured is a pg1000 programmer for a Roland D50/D550 synth. Digital synth, but much more satisfying with the physical interface.

Ooh, that looks like an easy one to fix. Don't need any other projects though, and no time.

1. Check for leaky caps... probably just replace them all.
2. Check all the transistors... if any are blown, replace with closest modern equivalent
3. Fix any resistors which may have blown due to #1, and also fuses.
4. Clean potentiometers, also likely dirty.
