Jordi and 1001 Opossums<p>I don't have a big boffo speech or anything to celebrate 10 years of <a href="https://beige.party/tags/Sobriety" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Sobriety</span></a> from alcohol. All I really want to say is that anyone can find themselves struggling with a dependency, regardless of any personal or cultural variable. And it is not a moral failing. It is a mental aberration. It is no choice. It becomes an absence of choice.</p><p>If you are struggling with addiction, please know that you are not bad, you are not hopeless, and you are not alone. I could not have survived to make it to this point without other addicts helping me. You are not alone. Please, reach out. You are worth it.</p><p>My gratitude is boundless. My mother continues to support me every day and is a constant source of wisdom. And without my sister taking care of me for those first 6 or so years, I would never have stuck it out. As a wee lad, I did all the stuff - Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation. I was born here all my life. When I was around four years old, the church kicked out my mom and, by extension, my family. An <a href="https://rcsocial.net/tags/ExcludedCatholic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ExcludedCatholic</span></a>? I explored other practices and faiths, <a href="https://rcsocial.net/tags/meditation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>meditation</span></a>, <a href="https://rcsocial.net/tags/yoga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>yoga</span></a>, <a href="https://rcsocial.net/tags/Buddhism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Buddhism</span></a>, and all the things. I wanted to not convert to a religion or practice that I had not been born to or wasn't otherwise ancestrally connected. I explored Protestant fellowships but soon began seeking "the deeper things" back in the lives of saints. This led to a deep dive into the <a href="https://rcsocial.net/tags/EarlyChurch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EarlyChurch</span></a> Fathers and early <a href="https://rcsocial.net/tags/ChurchHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ChurchHistory</span></a>. Entering the <a href="https://rcsocial.net/tags/OrthodoxChurch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OrthodoxChurch</span></a>, I lived in several monasteries and wandered around the US like the guy in Way of a Pilgrim. I was ultimately drawn to <a href="https://rcsocial.net/tags/Theosis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Theosis</span></a> and the <a href="https://rcsocial.net/tags/PrayerOfTheHeart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PrayerOfTheHeart</span></a>, sometimes called the <a href="https://rcsocial.net/tags/JesusPrayer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JesusPrayer</span></a>.
