Back in April 2021 there was uproar when this mature tree on Lower Rathmines Road was pruned to within an inch of it's life allegedly to provide a better view of the advertising billboard.

No-one was ever held responsible for the damage and now four years later, just as the tree was beginning to recover from that butchery, someone has gone and done it again. 😡

Let's talk about buses in Rathmines...

Bus Connects is not just about more frequent and more reliable bus services, it is also about safer places to walk and to cycle. We in the Green Party want to invest €10bn in capital infrastructure for public transport in the next Dáil. If you want to see these projects happen, Vote Green, Choose Chu!

JC Decaux casually parking their van in the bike/bus lane in Rathmines at the height of the morning rush hour as school children are cycling to school and people are travelling to work by bus and bike. They were there for at least 15 minutes and most likely longer.

As long as this behaviour is tolerated we will never have a reliable public transport service or a safe cycling network.

In the last two months there have been at least three significant shop closures in #Rathmines - Abner Brown's Barber Shop, Burdock's Fish & Chips and ThinkBike.

Sprezzatura, Flaneur and Groom Barbers all closed in the last year and remain vacant. Barnardos closed in 2020 and is still vacant and in very poor shape.

The Bank of Ireland, which closed three years ago is also still lying vacant, and the Post Office is due to be closed and relocated to a hatch at the back of Centra.

Over the last few months I've been working with St Louis Primary School in Rathmines to look at ways to tackle ongoing road safety issues around the school. We surveyed parents about their travel patterns and the school's Green Schools committee carried out a walkability audit of the streets around the schools.

We also proposed some street design interventions which have received the support of local councillors in Dublin City Council.
