Yo aprendí a hacer café con 2 velones de estos que le prenden a los santos. Los que guardamos para la temporada de huracanes.
Y del material vegetativo de afuera hacer un fogón si se acaba el gas y el carbón.
Esta mierda no es facil. #PuertoRico #MastodonPR

I’m gonna post here because I am extremely annoyed.
Apparently Puerto Rico’s governor made a podcast where her sex life was either directly or indirectly referenced to. And no one seems to want to stop talking about it.
This is an awkward use of flooding the zone and I hate it. #PuertoRico
La verdad, la verdad, prefiero volver a AEE. No me importa lo que funcionaba o no.
Tanto LUMA como GeneraPR han sido un desastre.

So we *have* a power grid, and we'll be paying for it for the remainder of my natural life and yours, but it can't do things like, you know, keep the airport running, or the hospitals.
I understand that keeping the power on up here in Adjuntas is fraught with risk; I grew up in the country, so power outages are nothing new to me. But in town? In town a functioning society is supposed to be able to keep the lights on.
This is very ironic.
This is like the time my dog warned me somebody was trying to steal food off the table.
This article describes the situation in regards to energy management and how the island is constantly affected by blackouts due to a poor management orchestrated by #Luma (a private company that suceeded the public institution PREPA)
Everything goes out in #PuertoRico except for #DataCenters However, it seems that in critical times their workers opt to provide refugee to the general population despite security concerns.

As part of the #WebsOfWater activation we are researching the effects of digital infrastructures on water bodies in the Caribbean.
I'm focused on #PuertoRico. I chose the country because I feel attracted to their culture and because of the colonial relationship with the #USA.
I'm finding a lot of really interesting stuff beyond water bodies. I'll be posting some in this thread.
I'm starting with this article that gives info on water management history in the island https://brooklynrail.org/2021/08/river-rail/Colonial-Waterscapes-The-Water-Issue-in-Puerto-Rico/

Another day, another blackout. Surviving under colonialism is the only extreme sport I practice.
PS: I will never ever be convinced that privatization works.
Well, hey! The power is out again!

Puerto Rico power blackout
On Wednesday more than a million customers lost power in an island-wide blackout.
An initial report puts the initial failure down to vegetation. It appears that the coincident solar storm was just a coincidence, although subsequent cascading failures that caused the whole island to go off line are subject of a further report due to be delivered "this weekend".

Energy: 17k / -313k (<2%) customers in Puerto Rico are without power (Eagle-I, as of 7:30 a.m. ET)
Our current governor, saying, "You don't lose groceries in 24 hours."
What she alludes to, is that losing power for a day does not cost people the food in their fridge.
She doesn't know, because she has never been poor, that its not just the cost of the groceries in the fridge. It's a knock on effect, you HAVE to throw out the meat in the freezer, and the lettuce, and now your whole weeks meal plan is ruined. So spend MORE to eat half as well.
