This is vile. And yet I know that it will successfully placate many “I’m alright, Jack” types.

Future claimants need PIP too.

And don’t be surprised when, at the point they think they can get away with it, they start a widespread “review” of PIP claimants and make us apply again, so that we can classify as “new” claimants.

Sir Keir Starmer sits in front of a Union Jack
BBC NewsKeir Starmer climbs down on welfare bill after Labour MP backlashCuts to some disability benefits will only hit future claimants, not those already on it.

“Whether you acquire disability at birth, five years ago or tomorrow, it should be the same for everyone.”

“These concessions aren’t enough and they should worry us all. If you become disabled tomorrow, you risk not having the support you need.”

The Guardian · No 10 climbs down over welfare bill in move to win over Labour rebelsBy Kiran Stacey

Great Scott, my MP's gone up another jump in my estimation. I was really getting to like him anyway, but about an hour ago, completely unprompted, he sent me this:

forms.office.com/pages/respons

He feels, quite rightly, that the government needs to know people's views on PIP. They don't seem to be giving this questionnaire much publicity, but he's more than happy to do it for them (because both he and they know what people think!). It's not a good questionnaire, but the answers are open-ended so it's still worth filling in.

Please boost if you feel able - people in the UK need to see this!

forms.office.comMicrosoft Forms

I do wonder whether Starmer, Reeves and McFadden have even bothered to trying to read the room. Cuts before considered review and reform (hey they have had long enough in opposition to consider what needs to be done - see works both ways) can only be timetabled because it allows them to claim ignorance of the consequences of their actions. And maybe a few backbenchers are growing spines, unlikely as it seems.

The Guardian · No 10 set to offer concessions to welfare rebelsBy Jessica Elgot

PIP is an IN-WORK benefit, paid to disabled people to assist with the additional costs of being a disabled worker.

People receiving PIP payments PAY TAX.

Cutting payments will make it more difficult, even impossible, for them to work. It will cost the government more in lost taxation than it will save!

#Starmer is well aware that #Pip is not an ‘out of work benefit’, quite the contrary, it helps offset the cost of being #disabled and getting to work…but he’s made statements like this today

“There is a clear moral case, which is: the current system doesn’t help those who want to get into work,”

“It traps people. I think it’s 1,000 people a day going on to Pip. The additions to Pip each year are the equivalent of a city the size of Leicester. That is not a system that can be left unreformed.”

"A benefits system that systematically disregards menstruation, personal care, and continence management for disabled women cannot credibly claim to meet its legal obligations to promote equality and eliminate discrimination.”
Dharshana Sridhar, Spinal Injuries Association.

The Guardian · Labour’s benefit cuts will have ‘devastating’ impact on disabled women, say charitiesBy Frances Ryan

What started as a trickle is now a flood — more than 120 Labour MPs are rebelling against the government’s plan to slash disability benefits.

The Universal Credit and PIP Bill would push millions into poverty, and public pressure is working. With a week left before the vote, every message counts.

Email your MP now to support the rebellion.

Vox Political · Labour Rebellion Snowballs Against Disability Cuts BillOpposition to Labour's disability benefit cuts is snowballing. More than 120 Labour MPs have signed — and the pressure could topple the bill.

#dwp #pip I swear I'm going mad. The government keeps saying they're trying to cut PIP to help people into work. Newspapers are taking that argument at face value and writing from that perspective; cutting pip pushes disabled people into work.
PIP IS NOT AN OUT OF WORK BENEFIT. RECIPIENTS ARE OFTEN ABLE TO WORK *BECAUSE* THEY GET PIP. CUTTING PIP WILL MAKE IT *HARDER* FOR DISABLED PEOPLE TO WORK.

GAAAAAH

I am pleased to see my own MP, James Naish, on the list of 108 signatories to the amendment to the disgraceful Welfare Bill that Kendall and Reeves are trying to push through. Fingers crossed.

@wood5y Hard to believe #BlueLabour really are just going to leave disabled people to die - where's the profit in that? A theory:

Tired: Financial support for daily living via #PIP that disabled folk can spend however they want. Clearly bad because it's a "handout."

Wired: "Public private partnerships" to deliver care in the home, and ultimately deliver you to the care home, with a nice NHS badge because everyone loves the NHS. Clearly good because... Innovation! Efficiency!

#Masthon v0.3 Alpha is released now ! :catjam:

You can now use threading.

Masthon is a package made with love :BlobhajPrideHeart: by @org_literie_gator that links your #python programs to the #mastodon #API. All #code is #opensource and published on gitlab at gitlab.com/Gator3000/masthon.g

New #Pip and #UC category

Anyone placed in the LCWRA category after next April will get the full rate of £423.27 if they have severe, lifelong conditions or a terminal illness.

For a claimant to meet the severe conditions criteria, they must have a condition that will last for the rest of their life, with no realistic prospect of recovery.

This diagnosis MUST come from an NHS professional, a private practitioner opinion can not be accepted.

I have #Dystonia that is such a condition.

The government claims it's “rebalancing” welfare — but Citizens Advice says millions of disabled people face devastating cuts under new DWP rules.
Some could lose over £10,000 a year.

Sting gave one disabled fan a moment of joy and dignity — something the Labour government seems determined to take from hundreds of thousands.

As Liz Kendall pushes through brutal PIP and Universal Credit cuts, we ask: why can’t ministers show the compassion Sting did so naturally?

Answer NO money in the many, mainly very poor & sick,
