"Brightness statistics for #satellites of the #Starlink, #BlueBird, #Qianfan, #Guowang and #OneWeb constellations are reported. Nearly all these #spacecraft exceed the magnitude 7+ brightness limit pertaining to interference with professional #research. Most also exceed the magnitude 6 reference where they distract from aesthetic appreciation of the night sky."

Eutelsat plans to supply Ukraine with satellite connectivity amid Starlink uncertainty.

Eutelsat, which owns OneWeb, a competitor to Starlink, stated that it is “actively collaborating with European institutions and business partners,” adding that it has equipment that can be “deployed swiftly in Ukraine to connect the most critical missions and infrastructures.”

#Europe already is working on their own system, called #IRIS2. Application focus apparently already broadened from government/corporate use to B2C.

Anyone able to share their experience moving away from #StarLink? (Assume fibre and cellular Internet are not available.) #ProjectKuiper doesn’t seem to be ready yet, and it feels only marginally better to be paying Bezos. #OneWeb doesn’t seem to serve domestic customers. Geostationary services vary around the world by their nature - if you have it, do you have trouble with the latency? Here we seem to have services provided by Eutelsat, who apparently have no qualms still operating in Russia…
