Joe Wynne 🌻 🚗 ⛰️<p>Looks like with all the rain we've had, there will be a bumper crop of Blackberries!</p><p>These just grow wild in my backyard, limited only by my yanking up roots where I don't want them. It's usually me having the few leftovers after the birds, but this year looks like the birds can't keep up. </p><p>Time to start harvesting. 😋 This is where the problems start. The thorns are wicked. It's like they don't want you to gorge.</p><p><a href="https://mindly.social/tags/NativePlants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NativePlants</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/BiodiversityGardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BiodiversityGardening</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/Gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gardening</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/Blackberries" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Blackberries</span></a></p>
Joe Wynne 🌻 🚗 ⛰️<p>💮 I will leave this tiny flower growing in my garden. In suburbia, it's considered a weed outside of a <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/NativePlants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NativePlants</span></a> garden, but the Clasping Venus' Looking Glass or Clasping Bellflower can be found in North and South America. There are bees, butterflies, moths, and flies that visit its flowers.</p><p>🦋 I have noticed that small pollinators sometimes get scared off of some of my flowers by the rough activities of the larger ones. </p><p>🐝 This seems like a perfect stopover for the little guys.</p><p><a href="https://mindly.social/tags/BiodiversityGardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BiodiversityGardening</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/HabitatGardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HabitatGardening</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/Bloomscrolling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Bloomscrolling</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/Flowers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Flowers</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/WildFlower" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WildFlower</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/WildFlowerHour" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WildFlowerHour</span></a></p>

𝓡𝓪𝓰𝓱𝓾 𝓜𝓲𝓼𝓱𝓻𝓪 :verified_alt:<p>We all start somewhere on our gardening journey. Four years ago, I proudly planted a lilac. Today, I realized it wasn't the best choice for my local ecosystem. Call it a learning moment!<br>So, I made a change. The lilac is out, and a wonderful native chokeberry is in its place. It might be small now, but I have big dreams of a future where a flock of Cedar Waxwings will visit to enjoy its berries.<br><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/nativeplants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nativeplants</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/plants" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>plants</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/nativeplants" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>nativeplants</span></a></span> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/plants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>plants</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gardening</span></a></p>

Daniel 🐅🏔<p>The yellow salsify has been popping up the last week or so and I was noticing quite a few this morning when something grabbed my eye — a purple one!</p><p>Turns out this is a really cool plant: Tragopogon mirus, the Remarkable Goatsbeard, is a hybrid of the naturalized T. dubius (yellow salsify) and T. porrifolius (purple salsify), both native to Eurasia</p><p>Apparently it hybridized and reproduces here in North America, and therefore is considered a native plant!
