pleased to report my Chinese is strong enough to get mad at inadequately quality-controlled translations
it also mixes up store (merchant) and store (in box)
Food sovereignty, IMHO, means growing affordable local food first and foremost for local people, and only afterwards sending excesses to the regional or global marketplace.
That is the opposite of how predatory & extraction capitalism works - taking the best farmland and using it exclusively for export, leaving little or nothing affordable for local people to eat.

Glad I passed on buying "Abundance" at the Symposium Bookstore here in Providence.
The main premise of this book is false.
We cannot trust centralized or top down governance to make good choices for local conditions & local issues.
In fact, the opposite is true.

"The Strong Towns approach rejects the entire pursuit of permanence. It recognizes that healthy communities must be able to evolve."
Labels on the map match your preferred language, just like the rest of the site. You can set your preferred language in settings. Now you can understand the map even if you don’t speak a language that was common halfway around the world centuries ago. For mappers, it’s a lot easier to see opportunities to improve our language coverage.
We are just weeks away from GNU Health HIS 5.0 . It's a great moment to update the translations. The Hospitall Management component is currently being to 35+ languages... Is yours in?
You just need to go to @Codeberg and start translating GNU Health to your favorite language!
PODCAST
"How might we rekindle a sense of enough in a world that constantly tells us we need more? As globalization begins to retreat, what small but meaningful steps can we take to relocalize our lives and reconnect with each other? And what kind of futures might be possible if we centered our communities around systems that regenerate the very places we call home?"
We'd love your help in translating PREreview into Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese by joining one of our two calls next week! Learn more and register here: https://content.prereview.org/help-translate-prereview/

Please boost for reach! Which would you prefer from a self-funded indie game studio that can't afford translation services:
1) Don't translate the game at all. Just leave it in English.
2) Use LLMs to translate the games, but have a crowdsourcing system to correct errors.
3) Have a crowdsourcing system and only make languages available when the crowd completes them.

There is nothing inevitable about predatory capitalism. Cities, counties, and states should *do their job* and refuse to grant licenses to companies that pay sub-living wages, pollute the environment, or are known to be engaged in criminal activities (like ICE detention facilities who are falsely imprisoning legal immigrants).
We allowed these corporate monsters to exist, and it's time we started pulling the plugs.
Reminds me of the localization efforts on Mozilla's Firefox OS several years ago.
"Ibrahima Sarr, a Senegalese coder, led the translation of Firefox into Fulah, which is spoken by 20m people from Senegal to Nigeria. “Crash” became hookii (a cow falling over but not dying); “timeout” became a honaama (your fish has got away). “Aspect ratio” became jeendondiral, a rebuke from elders when a fishing net is wrongly woven."
"I feel bombarded by articles on the U.S. housing crisis, which inevitably display suburban tract homes sprawling across the landscape or promote skyscraper apartments instead. I look at these patterns on the landscape and think, “What an utter waste.” We are doubling down on a way of life that has no possible good future."
"An economic system is the way in which a society organizes the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services...For the Economy for Life to qualify as a system, we would start with some assumptions:
- Economic growth cannot remain the core objective (this is the mission of DeGrowth)
- Sufficiency and well-being should become the core objectives of economic activity..."

What are the modern tools available for #translation #po files? #gettext I specially want to know about how to find suggestions from all the previous work done in many other project's po files. I can clone those repos somewhere locally, but is there any way to find suggestion from existing translations? #l10n #localization

So, not just Decentralized Social (DeSo), but instead —
Decentralized Social (DeSo), Federated Social (FeSo), Localized Social (LoSo)
The goal is 'social' that is simultaneously — 'Decentralized', 'Federated', and 'Localized', all at the same time.
4/
Federation is the word we use to describe that act of bringing together and connecting these separate Decentralized, Localized communities.
This is where protocols such as ActivityPub, ActivityStreams, etc come into play.
Federation is a voluntary choice.
But, so too is Defederation, if desired.
3/
Localization is important to make Decentralization work and last.
Decentralization without Localization can be susceptible to Centralization.
Decentralization with Localization spreads out decision-making and power to groups (that could consistent of a single individual) with a personal stake in the outcome of the decision-making.
Which creates incentives that lead to greater resilience to Centralization.
2/
The message matters, as it can affect the future.
I think we should make a point to ALSO explicitly talk about 'Federation' and 'Localization' when we talk about 'Decentralization'.
Because if we don't, then — it is likely these values will be lost.
(I think we have already started seeing this in some places.)
1/
In some ways it is unfortunate that the word 'Decentralization' has become a short-hand for the three ideas:
Decentralization, Federation, Localization
Some know that all the ideas are important — and that 'Decentralization' is a short-hand for all three.
But, many don't!
