When I use something like an external hard drive or CD-ROM, I have a stable connection whatever I do, moving the computer etc. However, with my external audio interface, only a slight touch to the USB plug causes an abrupt end of connection and the need to reconnect.

Can anybody tell me the connection is so much more fragile in this case?

I bought a returned Bitwig Connect audio interface at a discounted price and I'm impressed. I mean, the device is great, and also...

How nice it is to have a piece of music hardware that officially supports Linux, that offers a software control panel application that runs natively on Linux, that integrates deeply and out of the box with my DAW on Linux. Oh, and with a manual covering Linux details. 🐧

Long live Linux audio!

So I've finally set myself up to be living my best 100% Linux life. That's right: the last Microsoft account has been signed into in this house. Goodbye Xbox, goodbye Windows. Good riddance.

These two devices are the last ones I'll probably ever have that require me to sign in to a Microsoft account. Or surveil me while I'm just trying to write in a text file.

And helloo

I am thrilled to share that a new #linuxaudio #plugin #developer #interview is up at linuxaudio.dev/linux-audio-dev. 🤓
This time, I had the pleasure to talk to Guillaume Piolat EI from Auburn Sounds, an intriguing vendor of creative audio effect plugins.
As I learned in the interview, Auburn Sounds use their own framework called Dplug, to develop their plugins.

PD: You can find an overview of all the interviews I did so far at linuxaudio.dev/linux-audio-dev.

This year's #linuxaudio conference in Lyon was hot (literally 36+ degC). A personal highlight was Fons Adriensen's presentation on Tape Emulation. I learned how tape heads work in detail.

Many thanks to Romain Michon and team for organizing this event.

Recordings of the sessions are available at youtube.com/@gramecncm

It was fun to meet old friends and make some new ones. It was also exciting to have the scientific presentations in a hall named after a hero:

Dear #linuxmusician (s), welcome to Linux Audio Plugin Development! 😎

If you haven't read the #linuxaudio #plugin #developer #interview (s) with the lovely folks from ACMT, @audiothing, Audio Assault, Inphonik, Kazrog, Linux Studio Plugins, RV Audio Design, Sinevibes, Sinuslabs, Sononym or TAL Software, feel free to take a look here: linuxaudio.dev/linux-audio-dev

PD: More interviews with Audio Damage, @uheplugins, Auburn Sounds and Klangfreund are in the making. 🤓

One of my all-time favorite plugin makers, Soundtoys, is donating ALL SALES made today or tomorrow to the leading US organization dedicated to the civil rights of LGBTQIA+ people and everyone living with HIV.

Their plugins sound seriously great and are a joy to use. While they're not Linux native (yet!!), I've had good luck running them using Wine and yabridge.

From Wednesday June 25 until Saturday June 28 I will be attending the Linux Audio Conference 2025 at the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA) in Lyon.

To get an idea of what this conference is about: jimlac25.inria.fr/lac/

This conference is not work related, I'm going there out of personal interest. This will be my 7th Linux Audio Conference. Looking forward to it and I won't hesitate to do some SURF name dropping here and there.

To my fellow Linux Musicians:

TOPIC: Audio drop-outs when using ADAT in 3gen Scarlett.

I have the Focusrite Scarlet 18i20 3gen and the alsa-scarlett-gui from Geoffrey Bennett.

So far so good.

BUT:

If i route several hardware inserts using the ADAT outs via Ferrofish A16 (to use my outboard gear when mixing) i get some serious dropouts.

Tested with Alsa and Jack. But i'm not very firm with the Jack settings.

I had a similar issue in windows and had to adjust the ADAT mode in the control software.

Anyone here who uses the ADAT of the 18i20, had audio dropouts AND solved the issue?

(Specs in comment)
