Natanael Copa<p>Parts of the Alpine Linux infra (CI) has been unreliable recently. It has remined me of how valuable the parts that works are, and how valuable the Linode/Akamai sponsoring is for Alpine Linux. They have been incredible stable and reliable.</p><p>Thank you!</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Linode" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linode</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Akamai" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Akamai</span></a></p>
Jonathan Kamens 86 47<p>For the record:<br>* They emailed me the same request again on January 1, 2025. I once again told them to pound sand.<br>* This morning they escalated by filing a <a href="https://federate.social/tags/DMCA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DMCA</span></a> takedown request with <a href="https://federate.social/tags/Linode" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linode</span></a>, my hosting provider. Email addresses can't be copyrighted, so the request is totally bogus. Linode forwarded it to me and demanded that I take action rather than reading it carefully enough to determine that it's bogus. I just wrote back to them and told them it is. We'll see what happens.<br><a href="https://federate.social/tags/Comcast" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Comcast</span></a></p>
E-TARD The LifeCaster<p>There are other options to <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/PeerTube" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PeerTube</span></a>.<br><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/OwnCast" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OwnCast</span></a> is a self-hosted live stream server &amp; chat. Crazy easy to setup, you will need to host it somewhere.<br>I would go with <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/Linode" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linode</span></a><br>It has an optional OwnCast directory you can add yourself to, so people can discover your stream.<br><a href="https://owncast.online/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">owncast.online/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p>"Open Streaming Platform"<br>a self-hosted live stream/recording server &amp; chat<br><a href="https://gitlab.com/osp-group/flask-nginx-rtmp-manager" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">gitlab.com/osp-group/flask-ngi</span><span class="invisible">nx-rtmp-manager</span></a><br>Not as easy of a setup.</p><p>Again none of them have a paywall but you could make one or add a donate buttons</p>

The Programming Linguist<p>2 days ago, I tried creating an account with Linode.<br>After I verified my phone number and entered my card details, I got sent to a page about my account being reviewed. Seconds later, I get this email.</p><blockquote><p>Your recently created account has been denied activation due to activity or patterns associated with fraudulent behavior. Additional attempts to sign up may also be rejected.</p></blockquote><p>The phone number I use was my personal phone number and my card was valid. I have a strong suspicion that their system canceled me just because of where I live, which is unacceptable to be honest especially with the reason that they've given. I've sent a support request about that but haven't gotten a response since. I tried recreating that account today and got the same result. Honestly, worst and most discriminatory provider I've stumbled upon, but everyone else loves them apparently.</p><p><a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/linode" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linode</span></a></p>
Joe :ferris: :nixos:<p>So <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/linode" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linode</span></a> blocks outgoing email from linodes by default, wish they told me. If they would allow outgoing spam, gmail and the like would simply block linode's address space which would be bad for linode's legitimate customers. To get unblocked an account holder has to file a support tickets. So I'm in the waiting phase. I'm legendary for my egregious typos tho, so hopefully i dont look like an email spammer to their trained eyes XD</p>
