Looks like the #liberux #mobilelinux phone finally released their indiegogo. Looks pretty expensive for people to buy into a companies first product. The good thing about rk3588 base is atleast collabora is pushing the mainline development forward so if they go bust its not dead in the water. Its still too expensive though for a community to sprout from it like the pine devices. I wish them the best but it seems to expensive for me to purchase one with the risk of it not materializing.

🔧 Big news: the first Liberux dev-board is here!

After weeks of work, we’ve finally received the assembled PCB and already started booting it up. Our hardware team has spent the last days debugging, testing, and getting the SoC to talk to the PC, and we’re officially entering the bring up phase! 🎉

📚 We just published a full post with all the details, photos and videos: 👉 liberux.net/our-first-dev-boar

🔧 Update on Liberux Nexx Prototypes 🔧

After a major delay due to the Chinese New Year and an issue in production, we had to look for a new manufacturer for our prototypes. Fortunately, we found a company in Spain that will take over the production. 🚀

In the meantime, we took the opportunity to make some redesigns to the board. The new prototypes will arrive in the coming days, and we’re excited to share more updates soon.

Cheers! ❤️

didn't realize that @Liberux posted the modem they are going to use. Is anyone on #linuxmobile familiar with the Snapdragon X62 and how well its supported on mainline? Looking at the specs its really new and modern so performance and efficiency should hopefully be amazing. That of course does depend on if power saving modes can even be activated. What are everyone's thoughts/experience on it? Also wonder if its hooked up via usb similar to #librem5

Replied to LINux on MOBile

@linmob

Thanks for another interesting roundup! Great to see all the work happening on smooth, high end video playback, even on the Pinephone! Also interesting to see what #Liberux are working on. Hopefully the product will match the promises! We need more decent spec Linux phones! (Preferably at non-insane prices but hey, I'm prepared to pay a premium if the hardware is worth it).

The Liberux NEXX will include 3 physical kill-switches for total privacy:

1️⃣ Microphone + Cameras
2️⃣ Wi-Fi + Bluetooth
3️⃣ Communications Module
1️⃣ ➕ 2️⃣ ➕ 3️⃣ OFF → all other sensors are also disabled

This was the original design… but we're now considering the possibility of one more switch: 4️⃣ , a slider integrated into the camera’s shutter button, to separate cameras and microphone. What do you think about it?

Google’s Android may be the world’s most widely used operating system, while Apple has shipped billions of iOS and iPadOS devices since 2007. But a relatively small group of developers and enthusiasts have been working to make mobile Linux into a viable alternative.

There are a handful of phones that are designed to support operating systems that use a mainline Linux kernel. But those […]
