Cassana 🍻<p>And then, there was a dragon egg in my armchair!<br>This is the Ova by StoneWhistle. Essentially it's a very low bass <a href="https://the-crossroads-inn.com/tags/ocarina" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ocarina</span></a>, and I mean LOW as in 65Hz or C2. It's also a percussion <a href="https://the-crossroads-inn.com/tags/instrument" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>instrument</span></a> similar to the udu or ghatam, or both at the same time even. The decoration is terra sigillata and some cleverness involving blowing bubbles onto the surface (please help me describe that for the alt text). I'll write some more about it later, including audio; y'know, once I've spent some time with it.</p>

regina_nyckelharpista<p>The nyckelharpa is a folk instrument from Sweden 🇸🇪 with a long standing tradition there. "Nyckelharpa" is a Swedish word, "nyckel" meaning "key" and "harpa" being a general term for a stringed instrument. Its key features (hah, see what I did there?) are the sympathetic strings and a keybox full of wooden keys. Some translate it into English to "keyed fiddle" 🗝️ 🎻 "viola de teclas" in Spanish or "viola d'amore a chiavi" in Italian - although it is not a fiddle or viola ;)</p><p>How it works: I produce the sound with a bow on the strings, like on any other bowed instrument, but instead of touching the strings with the fingers of my left hand and pushing them down on a fretboard or fingerboard to play a melody, I press a key. In 1995 Ivan turk (TI) found a cave bear cub femur with curiously spaced holes in the Divje Babe cave (dibab), Slovenia. According to ESR dating the artefact is 50k-60k years old. In 2011 Ljuben Dimkaroski (DL) began his independent research. He concluded it was a protoflute, and called his reconstructions Tidldibab.
