Virtualizzazione e containerizzazione su Linux possono diventare anche un buon metodo per reperire software.
Distrobox, in particolare, viene utilizzato a questo scopo persino su alcune distribuzioni immutabili.

Great deal on a Dell Optiplex 9020 PC with an Intel Quad-Core i5! If you are looking into self-hosting or just need another machine on the cheap, check this deal out!
Proxmox for Enterprises: Imagine DRS-Like Guest Load Balancing!
ProxLB automatically rebalances VMs & Containers across a Proxmox cluster based on memory, CPU, and local disk usage, and can suggest the best nodes for further automation within CI/CDs. It supports maintenance mode, affinity and anti-affinity rules, and integrates seamlessly with the Proxmox API and ACL system. No SSH, just pure API! The best - it's free & #opensource
#AskFedi: So, I still have this project (idea) lying around of a 10-inch rack storage server (for small #HomeLab purposes), probably 3U.
One key thing I am trying to work out is drive caddys, since I really like that about my current NAS (one of those HP cubes). I like the idea of a miniSAS connected 4 drive bay, with trays, not sure how much I want to build this myself.
Thoughts? Ideas on motherboards (like maybe mini- or deep ITX, not wider)?
Cluster rebuild project/Homelab projects
Ok taking stock of where I'm at, and what is up next in random priority:
* IPv6, enable in kubelet and add to pods/services, add to cilium bgp
* IPv6, stateless dhcp/dynamic dns?
* backups!
* woodpecker-ci for image builds
* cloud ingress to replace cloudflare
* migrate dns off of cloudflare? needs to support letsencrypt dns challenge
* Move vps to upcloud from hetzner?
* Find 1gb/rj45 sfp that works with the crs310 switch
* Figure out a nas build w/ ECC, 10gb network, 6+ disks, cheap, itx if diy, low power, and ideally one that comes with a unicorn but I'd settle for a pony I guess
* Build new server for the parents house

If you're looking for an inexpensive, low power homelab device, the Beelink Mini S13 PRO Mini PC is a great option and is on sale right now!

hey selfhosting photographer people of the internet, question for you!
I want to selfhost some sort of photo sharing app with really granular permissions
I want to share my photos, preferably in one place. I think (looking for input!) that I would be able to sort of "tag" an image with permissions. For example "public" or "friends" and/or "family"
Anyone.. know of something for that?
Piwigo, Lychee and Chevereto might be options.
Self-hosting can be a wild ride! What’s one thing you wish you’d known sooner about running your own servers or services? Let’s share our lessons learned!

I finally managed to write the Yum/DNF provider abstraction for RHEL like systems for my little patch reporting program.
It was all sorts of irritating because the package manager has all the low level information but only feeds it to you piecemeal via yum/dnf, so this is parsed out in 3 queries.
In the end, it just works transparently.
Self-Host Weekly (30 May 2025)
#MinIO is the new #Redis, software updates and launches, a spotlight on #LogForge -- a #log monitoring platform, and more in this week's #selfhosted recap!
My adorable little console based tool for patch reporting continues to take shape nicely. This output is consistent across platforms, too.
I haven't had this much fun writing anything in ages.
What I don’t like having is a public service exposed to the Internet. Tailscale can solve this for computers, but not for televisions. However, the odds there is a phone or a computer on the same network as the television is very high. I wonder if there is a way to register your IP address to open up a firewall rule to reduce the risk.
ICYMI – My latest video on Pangolin’s big updates is live! If you’re into self-hosting, CrowdSec integration & multi-domain support are game-changers. Don’t miss it!

I just found an interesting piece of Canonical's open source policies. I just wanted to set up Vagrant for my tinkerbell experiments. But I found that due to the switch to the BUSL license, Ubuntu no longer supplies boxes for Ubuntu: https://documentation.ubuntu.com/public-images/public-images-explanation/vagrant/#support
Okay, time for a new project:
A DIY homelab / NAS server as an upgrade / all-in one solution to my previous 2 bay Synology NAS, 2 Raspberry Pis running several services and a mini PC which was hosting #Jellyfin in the past. Will be trying out TrueNAS Scale for this build.
A question for the #streamer folk: If you're planning on streaming some content that's out of line with your typical content, do you set up a second 'channel?'
Interested in perspectives for and against splitting topics across channels.
Context: Usually I stream video games at @stream, but am looking at streaming some #HomeLab and #OtherNetworks type content, and maybe some #AmateurRadio #POTA activations.
The new news show I launched yesterday now has an audio only RSS feed as well.
