I've been trying out doing double-duty delivery, Door Dash and Uber Eats, at the same time.

There are a number of problems.

1) In my small town, DD still rules, there just aren't the same number of UE. Long stretches of the night will go without a single UE order.

2) Juggling the two apps is possible, but you're left hoping that an order from DD is in the same direction as one from UE. They usually aren't.

3) Because of 2), you have to choose whether to pause or go offline, which (I think) impacts the algorithm and leads to fewer orders, or less valuable ones.

4) Customers really don't like (understandably) if they see you veering off route to another store (even when its an order on the same app!) so ratings are at even bigger risk if you don't make the timings.

5) UE seems to have far fewer tips, so overall, if it werent for the $15 "quests" of extra cash to complete an order the pay is not as good.

6) This is all more stressful.

Conclusion:

I think I'm just gonna stick to DD exclusively for now unless daily totals start going down or its a super slow night.

A Parliamentary inquiry will now seek to get to the bottom of the root causes behind so-called 'e-bike' fires and other safety issues. There will be particular scrutiny of the gig economy model and its motivating factors for riders turning to modification kits, in fact they're looking for riders with lived experience.

Cycling Electric will submit evidence of our own as part of the call for evidence

🚀 Redefining Work in a Hybrid Society – Technology, #Leadership, and the Future of Employment

The way we work is changing—fast. Traditional employment models are being challenged by fractional leadership, the gig #economy, and the rise of remote-first collaboration. But is this shift making work better, or just more fragmented?

In this latest episode of Redefining Society & Technology on ITSPmagazine, I sat down with Sara Daw, author of "Strategy and Leadership as a Service" to talk about how technology is reshaping the workforce.

We dive into:

💡 The rise of fractional C-suite roles and why executives are choosing autonomy over full-time positions
💡 How companies are shifting from payroll to access-based #employment
💡 The role of psychological ownership in a world where contracts no longer define commitment
💡 What this means for future generations, as they enter the workforce with an entirely different mindset

Technology enables this shift, but the real question is: Are we using it to empower people—or just creating a new kind of instability?

Are we heading toward a more flexible and fulfilling work model, or is something getting lost in the transition? Let’s discuss.

Sean Martin

"Africa’s story of labor exploitation did not begin with the gig economy, and it won’t end with it either. We are witnessing a digital rearticulation of the same forces that have historically shaped the continent’s economic structures—where foreign investment is prioritized over fair wages, and technology serves as a cover for worker exploitation."

I don’t imagine a #business model that habitually underpays contractors will necessarily enhance users’ #security. If anything, it seems a great way to match violent, fiscally insecure gunmen with wealthy but vulnerable targets. hollywoodreporter.com/business #app #GigEconomy #freelance
