Vaccine skeptic hired to head federal study of immunizations and autism
A vaccine skeptic who has long promoted false claims about the connection between immunizations and autism has been tapped by the federal government to conduct a critical study of possible links between the two,
according to current and former federal health officials.
The Department of Health and Human Services has hired
#David #Geier to conduct the analysis, according to the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation.
Geier and his father, #Mark #Geier, have published papers claiming vaccines increase the risk of autism,
-- a theory that has been studied for decades and scientifically debunked.
David Geier was disciplined by Maryland regulators more than a decade ago for practicing medicine without a license.
He is listed as a data analyst in the HHS employee directory. Public health and autism experts fear that choosing a researcher who has promoted false claims will produce a flawed study with far-reaching consequences.
They fear it will undermine the importance of the lifesaving inoculations
and further damage trust in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The government’s premier public health agency has stressed vaccination as the safest and most effective measure to control the spread of some contagious diseases,
including the growing measles outbreak in Texas and New Mexico.

Auf Fuerteventura sind das ganze Jahr über Schmutzgeier (es ist eine eigene Unterart) zu sehen. Auf dem europäischen Festland sind sie (überwiegend auf der iberischen Halbinsel) Sommergäste.
Leider sind die Bestände auf dem europäischen Festland rückläufig, auf Fuerteventura Dank des Schutzes aber nicht. Dort steigen die Zahlen.
Der dunkle ist ein Jungvogel, erst ab dem vierten Jahr sind sie hell. Alle drei Geier sind beringt.
Tiere sind Freunde und kein Essen oder eine Plage.
Bleibt gesund, glücklich und verliebt.
Der schlimmste Seelenschmerz ist das Fernweh.

Egyptian vultures (a separate subspecies) can be seen all year round on Fuerteventura. On the European mainland they are summer visitors (mainly on the Iberian Peninsula).
Unfortunately, populations are declining on the European mainland, but not on Fuerteventura thanks to protection. Numbers are increasing there.
The dark one is a young bird, they are only light in colour from the fourth year onwards. All three vultures are ringed.
Animals are friends, not food or a nuisance.
Stay healthy, happy and in love.
The most terrible pain in the soul is wanderlust.

Mit diesem Rabengeier / Black Vulture wünsche ich euch eine gute Nacht.
Er gehörte zu einer Gruppe von Geiern die ein totes Gürteltier am fressen waren.
Das Gürteltier wurde vermutlich durch Hunde getötet. Hunde sind einer sehr große Bedrohung für die Säugetiere in der kolumbianischen Anden. Es sind keine wilden Hunde, es sind die Haus und Hofhunde, die Hütehunde, die auch so umherstreifen und dann Jagd auf die Säuger machen.

Und wie immer ein wilder Mix auf diesen Account.
Vegane Gerichte bleiben momentan eine Seltenheit. Ich hab gerade recht viel zu tun und dadurch nicht die Zeit toll zu kochen und auch noch toll zu fotografieren.
Da ich meine Geierreihe nicht fortgesetzt hatte, kann ich auf Konservenbilder zurückgreifen. Weiter geht es mit den Altweltgeiern. Dies ist ein nur in Afrika vorkommender Wollkopfgeier (white-headed vulture).
Ich kann mich gut an die Aufnahme erinnern, denn danach kam es zu einem heftigen Gewittersturm, mit Buschfeuern und einem Temperatureinbruch von über 40 auf unter 20 Grad.
