Btw I'm still astonished by the fact that any new game I want to try, I don't need to care whether it will run on Linux or not. In Steam via Proton it just does. Every time.

they just removed the UI element. the general functionality and APIs are still there, so someone wrote a browser extension to fix it 
just tested it and it works. forked it, added DE/Swiss language to the options.
next steps: implement this keyboard layout switcher into the electron app 
linux gaming experience is usually figuring out how to actually run the game. thats the main game. once you get the "game" running, you just check it out for a few minutes and are like "ok nice", close it and continue to search for new problems to fix
