A core theme of the meta is to discuss the ambiguous nature of work versus play: the general plot arc of UFOSoft is to be founded by dreamers who "play at work", and then gradually fade into drudgery as so many companies do.</p><p>The inciting event of Mini & Max is of a mirror shattering - that's used to explain why Mini is able to talk to her dog and go on a size-shifting adventure in the storage closet. I haven't worked out all the times mirrors are referenced within UFO50 but a major callout comes in the Miasma Tower sequences, where Gregory Milk looks in the mirror and "can't see Pigman anymore, just his tired and grey face" (paraphrased) - seeing the mirror is taken to mean a world put in order, one that has put its fantasy away.</p><p>In most games with multiple endings, the "best" ending tends to be the one with the more miraculous, unlikely things occurring. But in Mini & Max, the cherry achievement, the harder ending to get, is also the one where the mirror is intact, order is restored, you never witness the party happening and just go outside. While in the gold ending, the magic fully escapes and Mini uses her powers to terrorize the party.</p><p>The games chronologically located after Mini & Max start to strip down their credits, eventually just to first/last initials. And the party guests in Party House, which are reprised in that last scene, are "friends of the developers". IOW, this game puts you in control of the "UFOSoft magic". When you cherry clear it, you've put things in order, which means the magic can no longer happen, because it always relied on chaos.</p><p>When you break a mirror, the saying goes, it's "seven years bad luck".</p><p>Barbuta, game 1: August 1982. It takes me *twenty minutes* to find. ebeth<p>Pixel Puzzle Makeout League:</p><p>the next game was taking a while to download so i jumped ahead a bit - this is a picross dating sim! it's been on my radar for a bit, and i'm glad i ended up getting it because it's super cute. you're a superhero whose superpower is solving picross, and you're on a puzzle-based superhero team so you can date your fellow heroes chess, sudoku, piecea, or crossword. the one issue i had was with the shaky screen effect - they gave an epilepsy warning at the start and told you where to turn it off in the settings and i, not having epilepsy, didn't bother but when i actually started playing i found it incredibly distracting. but luckily the setting is super easy to find again! it also lets you skip the picross tutorials which was a huge relief because i will scream if i have to do one of those for the thousandth time</p><p><a href="https://weirder.earth/tags/gameing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gameing</span></a></p>

Super Turbo Championship Edition:</p><p>i have a couple different versions of this game and i don't think i've ever specifically gone out to buy it, it just keeps showing up in bundles</p><p>it's a lot of fun though, i pulled out the controller for this one which seemed to be a good call (and one that the game suggests). would be a great one to play co-op. reminds me a lot of apotheon, which is a very similar platformer but set in ancient greece</p><p><a href="https://weirder.earth/tags/gameing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gameing</span></a></p>
ebeth<p>Blacktail:</p><p>i love this! it's an origin story baba yaga RPG, i honestly can't remember where i heard of it but i'm surprised it took me this long. there's a pretty straightforward crafting system, a lot of archery and exploration, and lots of witchy russian folk themes which i love (one of my favorite books as a kid was this huge collection of russian fairytales). definitely coming back to this one!</p><p><a href="https://weirder.earth/tags/gameing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gameing</span></a></p>

ebeth<p>went a bit out of order here but i played some Potion Craft last night</p><p>it was fun and laid-back, pretty much exactly what i needed in the moment. the alchemy map was a little frustrating - it took me a while to figure out how the movement worked, and so far i haven't really seen the ingredients corresponding to the potion's function in a super meaningful way, although it seems like that will maybe matter more in the long term</p><p><a href="https://weirder.earth/tags/gameing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gameing</span></a></p>

ebeth<p>Inside:</p><p>yeah i dunno, it's a visually dark platformer that doesn't explain anything. i started to get more into it when it got into the more puzzle-y bits but like, not telling me the controls up front doesn't count as a puzzle. if i have to go into settings to see what i can do that's not great. i didn't really connect with the story at all (you're being chased for some reason i guess) and i probably won't go back to this unless i'm really in a puzzle/platformer mood. i know it was well reviewed, so hopefully it gets better as you go, but it didn't grab me</p><p><a href="https://weirder.earth/tags/gameing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gameing</span></a></p>
