Bombadil<p>Day 3: finally into the West Elks <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Wilderness" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Wilderness</span></a> as we climbed the very steep trail beside South Castle Creek. Breccia towers all over the place and steep, overgrown slopes. It was startling how few people make it up here given the relative ease of access and spectacular scenery.</p><p>Set up camp in the only level spot; a campsite designed for about two tents, but we crammed in 8. elbowcrooker<p>I don't suppose the golf club are too happy about this very old public right-of-way crossing their course. You can't see from the photo but it is actually cobbled along much of its length, a feature that dates from the path's former life as a track across the pleasure grounds of Beauchief Hall, Sheffield, UK. The footpaths near the Hall and the nearby ruined Abbey are well worth exploring.
