I want the items in the grid to stick to a certain aspect ratio, regardless of the widget width. The height should dynamically adjust so it always stays that aspect ratio. Michael Strasser<p>One project I want to work on When I Have More Time™ is to research the records about my grandfather, John Borland Cumming (1891–1976), who was Australian director of food and petrol rationing between 1942 and 1946 (I think).</p><p>He was a model public servant who acted without fear or favour and always properly. My mother used to complain that they never got any special treatment (extra coupons or anything) in spite of the power he had. </p><p>JBC was a staunch Presbyterian who lived those Christian values. He never received honours because he was “neither Mick nor Mason” (in his words). He has no entry in the Australian Dictionary of Biography, which is something I want to remedy.</p><p>My attempts at using <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Trove" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Trove</span></a> and National Archives online to find records have not turned up anything useful. Cosmo<p>J'ai récemment quitté un appart, et j'ai laissé des murs un peu abimé (j'ai voulu repeindre par dessus des trous et à des endroits où la peinture était abimée, je me suis gourré en choisissant la teinte de peinture, y avait plus d'énergie, ok, c'est ma faute). Mais dans le devis que m'a envoyé l'agence, iels ont fair repeindre l'intégralité de l'appart alors que tous les murs n'étaient pas concernés (moins d'un tiers des murs je dirai). On est d'accord que je peux contester ça ? Michael Porter<p>Tossing this into the fediverse on the off chance someone is familiar with the problem and a fix.</p><p>My father is on a 2015 iMac (Intel Core i7) running macOS 12 Monterey.</p><p>PDFs are not opening properly, in a number of ways. This is the case for both Preview *and* Adobe Acrobat:</p><p>- If the app is not running, dragging a PDF over the app icon on the dock does nothing; the app doesn't launch. <br>- Double-clicking or selecting “Open With" from the contextual menu *will* launch the app and open the first document. <br>- Any successive documents will *not* open via double-clicking/the contextual menu/dragging to the dock. <br>- They will, however, be opened if “Open..." is selected from the File menu within the app.</p><p>- The same thing does *not* happen with TextEdit files or OpenOffice files - those apps behave normally and open successive files. It's just PDFs in Preview and Adobe Acrobat.</p><p>Any ideas? I find it odd that the problem exists over different apps, but not different filetypes. It is called "Digital Speaker Management" and it is the remote control for the inexpensive <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/IHOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>IHOS</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/DSP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DSP</span></a> processor.</p><p>I can click the connect button top right. But then the software crashes.</p><p>And I have an idea why it does so: It tries to find the IHOS controller via serial port or USB. Now Linux offers 32 serial ports to Wine, which are all virtual, and if I'd had the controller plugged in via USB, this would be COM33 in Wine! </p><p>But usually I don't plug it in, I use it via Wifi (the controller has its own wifi system even).</p><p>So is there a way to hide all these COM ports from Wine?</p><p>(Actually I do need COM33 sometimes for the Beyerdynamic Quinta Control Software.)</p><p>EDIT: I found out that the actual issue is displaying the connection window. It doesn't come up unless you press the Alt key after clicking the button. For whatever stupid reason.</p>

(Actually it seems to be safest to use the desktop window mode or how it is called.)</p><p>This can be set in winecfg.</p><p>Question: Can this be set only for this one application? Is there some command line arguments?</p>
