PaulaToThePeople 😷<p>I want open file formats with alt-text metadata that are compatible with most Fediverse software:<br>Upload an image or video to Mastodon, Pixelfed or whatever, that has alt-text metadata and it will automatically display the alt-text in the Fediverse.<br>Download the file and it will keep the alt-text.</p><p>Bonus: A metadata field for Fediverse creator. So people can download and repost media files and they will display the original creator just like Mastodon can do with link previews.</p><p>EDIT: In the replies we've gathered so far:<br>* There is an existing issue for Mastodon: <a href="https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/14903" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/mastodon/mastodon/i</span><span class="invisible">ssues/14903</span></a> (I don't open Microsoft GitHub™, so I didn't read it)<br>* PNG and probably many other file formats already have appropriate metadata tags that could be used.<br>* Fedi devs have to agree on one way to implement this -&gt; <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/FEP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FEP</span></a> <br>* While uploading a file you should be able to edit or replace the metadata alt text with your own alt text and then be able to choose whether you want to replace the file's metadata or not (So your post can display the alt text that is specifically relevant to your post, while the file can be downloaded with a more general alt text).</p><p><a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/AltText" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AltText</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/FeatureRequest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FeatureRequest</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/FediverseMeta" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FediverseMeta</span></a></p>

Different Than<p>dear <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/DuckDuckGo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DuckDuckGo</span></a> or other search engine: I want a little button next to every <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/search" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>search</span></a> result that lets me exclude it from all search results for me, personally, forever. With an option to block the entire domain.</p><p>I'm definitely looking at <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/pinterest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pinterest</span></a> but there's just a lot of <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/AI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AI</span></a> slop out there. Tons of AI-generated websites. Even without the AI search "helper" things, I get a lot of shit that is just really low quality.</p><p>I don't <em>think</em> I see this witih DDG (there is a "give feedback" button with unclear effects on my personal search experience) and I'm not familiar with many other search engines now (except google and no). But if there's something out there that already has this functionality, I'll be happy to check it out and happy for the referral. </p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/suggestion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>suggestion</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/featurerequest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>featurerequest</span></a></p>
The Other Brook<p>One super-frustrating UX choice in <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@Mastodon" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>Mastodon</span></a></span>'s "advanced web interface" is that if I click on a post in my Home column to expand it and read replies, the post loads in another column (it has no label and I don't even know what to call it) and the Home column for some insane reason resets its position to the top. </p><p>So effectively, I pretty much never manage to read everything that came into my home column while I slept because any time I want to read something in more depth the column resets to the newest posts and eventually I get tired of having to scroll through stuff I've already scrolled through multiple times to find my way back to the older unread stuff. </p><p>This has got to be someone's intentional choice to have it do this and it's a terrible experience. The column should stay scrolled to the position of the post that's been clicked on and not take away the user's control over when to go to the top of the timeline. </p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mastodon</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/UX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UX</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/FeatureRequest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FeatureRequest</span></a></p>

They used to be called TwitterCards in the old place I think. </p><p>It's unpleasant to have to see pics of you-know-who or his cronies in your feed even though I *do* want to keep seeing the news toots. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/featureRequest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>featureRequest</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/WebApp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WebApp</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@Gargron" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>Gargron</span></a></span></p>
