SleepyCatten<p>Hey folks!</p><p>Sorry again for being so quiet on fedi recently! Just been so busy!</p><p>Some good news to share though: today we got confirmation from our ISP that we've finally been connected up to the OpenReach full fibre network 🥰</p><p>This means we'll now be able to move from our current FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) connection to a FTTP (fibre to the premises) one.</p><p>Our current connection maxes out at 80 Mbit/s down and 20 Mbit/s up.</p><p>We're currently looking at upgrading to the up to 900 Mbit/s down and 100 Mbit/s up service 😁</p><p>Faster internet go brrr.</p><p><a href="https://cultofshiv.wtf/tags/ISP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ISP</span></a> <a href="https://cultofshiv.wtf/tags/FTTC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FTTC</span></a> <a href="https://cultofshiv.wtf/tags/FTTP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FTTP</span></a> <a href="https://cultofshiv.wtf/tags/OpenReach" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenReach</span></a></p>
Hambone Fakenamington<p>I'm always astonished by how <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Starlink" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Starlink</span></a> can provide hundreds of megabits of internet to a location like this, reliably even with fairly poor visibility of the sky and with instant easy self-install.<br>I'm having to do this because <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/BT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BT</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Openreach" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Openreach</span></a> have failed to fix the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/FTTP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FTTP</span></a> normal fixed line broadband for 15 days and counting, fibre is broken 1.6km from the building.<br><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/RuralBroadband" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RuralBroadband</span></a></p>
BicycleBen<p>AM vs PM - broadband upgrade done with a fibre line to my house finally! I recall being astonished going from dial-up to 512kbps ADSL, being able to download a CD's worth of data in an afternoon (without interruption by the phone!). Druid 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿<p>I've had an <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Openreach" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Openreach</span></a> engineer today to install a <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/fibre" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fibre</span></a> drop cable and CSP. I've got to say that he was absolutely excellent. Polite, professional, friendly, so easy to talk to and it's obvious he took a lot of pride in doing a good job. I sometimes read about people having negative experiences with Openreach but that certainly wasn't my experience today. I think it's important to recognise good people. <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/fttp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fttp</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/telecoms" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>telecoms</span></a></p>
