💾 FAA to eliminate floppy disks used in air traffic control systems - Windows 95 also being phased out • Tom's Hardware

「 Duffy said that the Transportation Department aims to complete the project within four years. However, industry experts say this timeline is unrealistic. No matter how long it takes, it’s high time that the FAA upgrades the ATC system today after decades of neglect 」

Tom's Hardware · FAA to eliminate floppy disks used in air traffic control systems - Windows 95 also being phased outBy Jowi Morales

It's great that the FAA is finally retiring floppy disks and Windows 95 from air traffic control systems.

But replacing outdated tech with cloud-connected systems massively increases the attack surface. Higher efficiency and more cyber risk.

Is this really the system we should rely on for life-critical flights?

"The Trump admin is spending ~$2.1M to investigate whether DEI causes plane crashes. Trump might be disappointed with the findings."

I obtained the “scope of work” doc for the investigation -marked “privileged” & “confidential" -shows how his accusations translate into taxpayer-funded govt action🚨+reveals cost of: admin’s fixation on #DEI at a time when the #FAA is struggling to hire & retain ATCs..

How much taxpayer💰has Trump wasted since 1/20?

"Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy keeps going on TV and insisting it’s safe to fly in and out of Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey, despite a string of extremely frightening outages and workforce shortages recently. But Duffy has now admitted he changed a flight booked for his wife on Monday so that she wouldn’t have to travel through Newark."
